Car: '99 Techno Blue
Default Hey all!

I bought my first car, a '99 (Techno?) Blue (GLS?) from Team Toyota. Funny story, we were actually on the way to Reedman-Toll, but couldn't find it (the signs were off, renovations) and ended up at Team Toyota, where we looked around at various crap, then asked if there was anything under 7k, which the salesman responded with a "Hmm, let me go see if it's here yet."

So he drives out the Beetle, and my mom (who had been researching it, saying I should get it) just started laughing.

He says they just traded it in 20 minutes ago, and I'm like, wow. It's still kinda dirty and they hadn't washed/serviced it yet.

[Keep in mind I'm a big guy; 6'4" and 300] So I get in and I;m REALLY amazed at how much space there is (I tried a Scion xB, which is pretty cool, but not what I wanted, and it was pretty small, actually. The seat is too raised)

So yeah, we totally got that. The only thing I noticed was the door handles are rotting, and there's a huge hole in the plastic under the wipers, but it's next to the drain holes, so I figure that should be okay. Maybe. Also I've been hating how damn noisy the engine is, but whatever. I was driving a Nissan Versa (first one in NJ) Also, I just recently learned about the Smart Transmission, so I'm gonna reset that for when I drive next. Also, the Gas gauge rapidly lowering after it hits 1/8th really bothered me, but now that I saw a thread here, I realize it's normal.

The overly large headrests (old style, with holes) were pissing me off, but if I remove the front ones it looks bad, and would probably go against me if I got in an accident. I took off the rear ones though. Also, retro CD changer is fun and the stereo is freaking amazing. I just wish the magazing had better skip protection, since my daily routine is all bumpy roads :(

Other than that, I'm happy with it, and I;m keeping it clean as hell. No trash at all, ever.

Anyway, hi, I'll post a picture thread tomorrow.

Beetles really are the perfect size for all drivers. I'm about 5'1 and I can easily reach the pedals and see over the steering wheel.

Backseat passengers are another story!

Welcome.

Sorry bout that, I haven't gotten a chance to detail/wash it yet. I should be able to do it tomorrow.

And lol, there will never be anyone in the back seat of my car. 99% of my time in my car is just me.

And geez, the CD-Changer is really pissing me off. Just, randomly, whenever, I keep getting Check Magazine and No Disc/CD Errors. REALLY annoying.

Those CD changers don't like burned CDs. Could this be your problem?

It's not just burned ones, it's all CDs. I really want to take it to a dealer and ask for a diagnostic but I'd rather not pay $200 for that, and $400 for a new deck.

Also, sometimes it's fine, and sometimes it's not, but usually not, and right now, it's playing like 2 seconds and then errors on something.

Welcome aboard!

I had an issue like yours when I switched out the CD changer for a PhatNoise MP3 player. I ended up having to remove the head unit in the dash and attach the cable to the back better. It had started to work its way out. No problems at all since then!

I don't think I'll be changing that out anytime soon.

Anyway, I posted my picture thread, enjoy.

Right, not talking about changing it out, just saying that it might be the cable in the dash coming loose. Also, have you checked where the cable goes into the changer?
