Default New Beetle owner in Northern Illinois.

Hi!
Wow, am I glad I found this site while surfing around on the net.

I've dreamed about owning a new beetle ever since I was 10 and it seemed like a far of dream. Now I am seventeen and I just bought my new baby last night. 2000 New Beetle GLX. 80,000 miles and one owner before me. Unfortunately, they did not take very good care of the car. Looks like a child got to the seats with permanent marker very badly, the radio antenna is gone, the center console needs to be replaced, there are quite a few crack in the plastic, and there are quite a few scratches big and small, inside and out. A few other minor things but I love it anyway and am going to fix everything to the best of my knowledge. I still can't even comprehend that she is mine.
Here is the dealer's picture:

The only downside is I have is I did not receive an owner's manual, so I will have to order one off line. Until then, I am kind of just going with the flow. (Already hit the panic button twice by accident while turning the car on. I'm a klutz.)

Really glad to be here and already love the Secrets of the New Beetle, Part Deux thread.

Congrats! When buying a used Beetle, nothing's going to be perfect. Mine was beat up pretty bad, but over the course of three years, I've fixed most of the items. The people on this board are very friendly and helpful - I'm sure you'll have a lot of support along the way.

Welcome to the .org!

There's no apostrophe before an 's' when you're talking about the plural version of a word. "I took some neat photo's!" is NOT correct.

Thanks everyone! She doesn't have a name yet. I am on Spring break and promised my best friend that she could help me name my first car.

Lnzbug- I'm sure we have passed each other before. There are so many bugs on the road here though that I just stopped paying attention. Haha. Thanks for the welcome!

Congrats! I didn't get an owners manual either, so of course the blue coolant temp light freaked me out because I thought something was wrong, but if you search here you can find answers to any of your questions you might answer with the owner's manual

That was the first thing I freaked out about. I was so relieved when one of my friend's told me it was suppose to happen.

Congrats on your new beetle! I've only had mine since Jan., so I'm new to the watercooleds, did the air cooled's for several years. I just got tired of freezing in the winter.

Yes an owners manual will be very helpful. Should be able to get one easy enough, maybe eBay?

Congrats and those problems sound like lightweight superficial ones that can be fixed with the right products and a little time. So long as it runs well...the rest can be cleaned up.
