Default Hello from North Dakota!!

We are a first time bug owners, or I should say my daughter is! I am a technician at a General Motors dealership in NW North Dakota. I have been there for 19 years now, and a 2000 Beetle 2.0 liter, manual trans, was traded in with 27,000 miles on it. My daughter has wanted a little yellow bug since she was very small and this one just appeared at the right time, she just got her license 2 weeks ago, and it is her 16th birthday on the 16th of May! The car has been well taken care of and looks brand new! I believe it is a GL. I was just wondering about a few things. Is Mobil 1 5/30 oil ok to run in this engine, and has anyone ever had an aftermarket cruise control or OEM cruise control installed? And is the antifreeze a extended life coolant like GM's dex-cool (orange). I most likely have other questions, but , I will start with these for now.
Any response will be appreciated,
Thanks, Shawn

You are a totally cool Dad! First off, DON'T put anything but the VW Audi G-12 antifreeze in. It won't mix and will gunk up and cause problems later. Also use distilled water to mix with it. 5/30 should be fine, unless it has synthetic already. The cruise question I can't answer but maybe someone else will.
Oh, and welcome to the org You should check out the "Secrets of the New Beetle Part Deux" thread. Lots of little secrets to learn. She's gonna love it!

Welcome to the ORG and congrats on purchase.

Lnzbug is correct on the coolant and oil.

I have not heard about an aftermarket cruise being added but an OEM can be installed.

Why not check at http://www.mobil1.com to find Mobil's actual recommendation for this car?

I enjoyed your post because your daughter sure got a better car than I did when I got my first new car, a 1970 Beetle.
