Hello all. I started lurking here in 2003, when I got my car. I am in the midst of a minor renovation now, including brake, suspension upgrades, repainting, and some light customizing.

My car is a personal thing for me. My father bought it because my sister's dream car was a silver VW. When she passed away, he got it to remind him of her. Now, he's gone and it's mine so the plan is to keep it essentially forever. Pics to come, but it's pretty much still stock right now.

Welcome. While all of us cherish our NBs, you have even more reasons to look after yours.
Feel free to post pics as the mods occur - you don't need to wait till the finished product (unless you feel that's necessary).

Thanks all! I plan to take some pics with the new respray (same color) and moonroof deflector and window tint. I just wish I could get my brakes fixed! The car was at a local mechanic with a GREAT reputation for 20 days, it got a new caliper and master cylinder and came back worse than before, with a pedal that goes to the floor before the car stops.

Now, been at the stealership since Monday, replaced the new caliper, which was broken, and the damn thing is STILL got a soft pedal.

OTOH, I have a new 6 factory cd changer and alien head valve stem covers. Just need a car to put them on.

Glad you came out of lurkdom, and what a special car, with a very special legacy. Hopefully the brakes get figured out soon!

Just got off the phone with the dealership's owner. He seemed like a nice guy, very sympathetic and a good listener. He's gonna ask the service department what's going on and call me back to see if there's anything we can do, so I got my fingers crossed.

I just can't understand why a car with 117k miles has a problem that the, ahem, Certified Factory Trained Volkswagen Technicians can't seem to fix, or even find.

Well, brakes are now perfect, and at just over a G invested, a bargain!

But on the way home from dealer, no turbo. Uh-oh.

Brought it back this morning and the news is a broken vaccum line that was rigged up with duct tape, probably from when I got the turbo replaced 3 years ago. Awfully convenient timing, though.

But here's the best part. Dealer courtesy shuttle brought me to work, then they called and said they were ordering the part, it'll be here tomorrow. Car is okay to drive home and back but they can't pick me up. The idiots STRANDED me. WTF?

Anyhoo, been using the darn friends and family ride system like a damn high school sophomore for FIVE FREAKIN' WEEKS now. I want my car back soooo bad.

I hear your frustration, so sorry you are going through that!
I hope that when you get it back this time every thing works the way it should - legacies are important!

I sure hope so. Sometimes I think this whole sage is some sort of test...to see if I'm worthy.

Default Reunited!

Well, the car is back. Washed & waxed and once again turbocharged!

Brakes practically stop time now, and a nagging problem with the speedo and fuel gauge is fixed. Life is good.

Driving a VW is like being a teen. The love is deep and sometimes unrequited, but I wouldn't trade the experience for anything.
