Engine Noise?

Hi.

A new member here. Just bought a 99 New Beetle which runs well but the engine when coasting/foot off the gas seems very loud as though something is not turning freely. Could this be the start of a transmission problem or is this just the way New Beetle's sound? Can anyone recommend a good VW mechanic in the NYC area that might take a listen. I am planning a long trip cross country and want to make sure everything is OK.

i have the same issue especially when it's in idol i've taken it to several mechanics and none of which have been able to figure out my problem i was just about to go to this one guy cause he knows but is a bit pricey. i would recommend but i live in CA. even though with all that it hasnt died on me yet and it's been doing it for awhile my best advice would be is to take it somewhere and fix anything that can be wrong like new sparks plugs, filter etc.... so at least your sure those aren't it. and ask to check engine to see if they know possibly. good luck.
