'99 Beetle - auto transmission issue

First thing in the morning, when shifting to reverse it can take 5 to 10 minutes to engage and go. After driving for 30 minutes or so, it then and continues to take 20 seconds to engage and go. Any thoughts or advise would be greatly appreciated.

we could use some more info to help better assess your situation. How many miles on the car? ever had the fluid in the tranny changed? Where are you located? Maybe we can help you find a good mechanic in your area.

Thanks for welcoming me. My bug has approximately 70k miles. We changed the transmission fluid at 50k. And actually I'm looking at buying a new car, but thought if I could get this fixed relatively cheaply I'd pass this car along to my neice. I suspect that it's an internal and expensive transmission problem. Thanks for your feedback.
