Default New to Forum..but no Beetle..need help

Hi everyone, I'm a new member to the forum and I have no idea where I should actually post this, so here it goes. I'm interested in purchasing a New Beetle, but I'm not sure which model to go with. I've narrowed down to the Beetle Turbo S or the TDI model. With this being said...which one would you choose? Please take into consideration maintenance costs and reliability. I'm not familiar with the tdi model and the required maintenance, but everyone tells me these will go forever. Now the Turbo S I'm concerned with the turbo in it and how many miles these cars can go. Most of the Turbo S models I've looked at have at least 75k miles on them and I'm not sure if i should pull the trigger on this model. Please any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you...

I have owned both, and I loved both. If fun and fuel economy is what you are after, get the TDI. If fun, 6-speed manual, and more power is what you are after, then get the Turbo S.

I don't envy you this decision. Good luck!

Welcome to the Org! You came to the right place to get opinions and answers to your questions. I'm not the best to voice my opinion to your question because of the obvious bias but... I have a basic question....

Do you have a preference for Diesel or Gas engines?

I hope you stick around and keep us posted on your search for a new ride.

I'm not all familiar with a diesel vehicle I've never owned one before. This is one reason why I decided to ask the forum members on their experiences with the diesel engine. I'm more looking toward reliability and longevity of the vehicle, so gas or diesel no preference.I've looked at a 2002 Turbo S with 86k on it..asking price $5995.00 and a 2003 Turbo S with 77k for $6995.00. Not sure if these are good prices though...

Of course it depends on condition but at those prices, I would at least look at both of them.

I had no clue what the TDI was when I bought my Beetle. The salesman said "It's a diesel" and all I knew was that I should put diesel in the fuel tank! I love this engine. If you decide on the TDI, find yourself an approved TDI mechanic on Fred's TDI Page. TDIClub.com. VW TDI Enthusiast Community Not just anyone can work on the TDI. It's a reliable engine, although the pre-2004 motors seem to have fewer problems. As for mileage, I use B20 and get 40-42 with 50/50 city highway driving. Also, the TDI is SUPER easy to add more power to. Just get a chip!

Good luck with your decision. Any Beetle is a good choice!
