Default Do you love your beetle?

I do not have a new beetle yet but I want one so badly. I have been searching for ever (I live in a really small town) so it is hard. I have wanted one since I was eight lol. I finally found a isotope green one that I feel in love with but it got sold before I went back to the sales place . A lot of people have bad things to say about beetles and my parents want me to buy a Honda. I have a question do you love your beetle do you have any regrets about it and how long did you know wanted a beetle, any problems I should know about? Sorry if this has been posted before I am new.

Welcome to the .org!!
You've come to the right place for Beetle info and I'll bet you won't find anyone here that does NOT love their NB.
I'd recommend concentrating your search for a 2002 or newer NB.
Earlier models had some recurring issues with electrical gremlins, automatic transmission problems, window regulators and a few other issues.
Don't let high mileage scare you away. If the car has been faithfully serviced and cared for, there is no reason to not considered buying it. Be sure to have an independent techinician who is familiar with VW's inspect the car and report to you anything he may find. This is always good to uncover potential problems and can be used to negotiate a lower price from the owner or insist that the service be done before you purchase.
Other than that, test drive a few, find one that you like and when you do, you'll know it right away.
Good luck on your search and come back here often for recommendations on what you have found.

Automatic

Power Steering

A/C

Heat

CD Player

I love my '03 GLS! Just hit 80,000 miles this last week.

Hopefully you know this already (from reading this board ) - by 83K, the timing belt is (over)due for replacement (water pump too, most are done at the same time). So if the seller doesn't have complete service records or answers about those items (and regular oil changes), be prepared. For me, they would not be deal-breakers if the car has been well-maintained - just be ready to replace them. Check the vw.com site for scheduled maintenance items that 'should' have been done by 80,000 miles, and check against the current owner's records if you can.

BTW, this would be the case with any car! No car is maintenance-free - Toyotas and Hondas need timing belts by 80K, too.

A well-maintained, well-loved Beetle is a very reliable car! And I say this as a non-mechanical, non-technical Beetle owner who doesn't do her own maintenance or repairs. As long as I keep to her regular service schedule, I feel very confident about my Baby - I drove her halfway across the country, by myself, and she's been great.

Yes I know about 80k mark maintenance...The guy says that he has it serviced at the VW place and recently got it serviced so those things should have be replaced if needed but if not I'll will get it done. My uncle who is a mechanic has always owned VWs but never a NB is coming with me to poke around to make sure if there are any problems that they are fixable.

Thanks for the info =)

I love my beetle...I have just had it for 2 months.
Right after my Luna Bug we have had to do the water pump and timing belt. Which was not something we knew about until finding this site. I think it is good that you are doing research before hand as it is really important to do those two key things or ruin your engine!
Even with the repairs we have put in, I don't regret a thing. I smile every day when I drive my Beetle.

My dad was the same way....he even tried to get my fiancé to try to talk me into a Honda...luckily he knew that a Honda would not make me happy. Just make sure you do your research and keep up maintenance like everyone else said. I know that you probably can't change your dads mind, but if you can at least make sure he knows you are making an educated purchase he might be more at ease. BTW my dad wouldn't even come out and look at my car when I brought it home, let alone go for a ride. I hope your family is more accepting than mine lol. I am still waiting for him to say I told you so once something goes wrong! At least my mom is happy for me lol. Good luck and post pics when you can of it!

Do I love my nb? No. Do I adore it? absolutely. Even on a bad day I can just go sit in my car and have my mood lift.

They're more than cars here at my house, they're more like pets/family members.

I love mine but if you're looking for a dummy-proof, won't have to do a thing to it kind of car, go for the Honda. VWs tend to be a bit quirky at times...this sensor goes, that water pump goes, this headlamp dims, this airbag light comes on etc. To me, the fun outweighs all this but with over 80k miles, it won't be a Honda reliability-wise. Answering again the original question..I do love my Bug.

i love mine. it's been and continues to be an excellent car.
it's never broken down on my, except for running out of gas. doh!
even with all my modifications it's been rock solid.
it was my first brand new car, most likey it will be my only as i don't care for how electronic the new cars are.

Welcome to the ORG! I do love Ernie, a lot! I think I love him even more than my 2 previous New Beetles, because they were both new. Ernie was used, and needed some tender loving care. I used to live in Marion, very close to Shelby!!! I used to go to Church in Dysartsville! A church called Victory Temple, I'll bet you have been by it. I love Shelby, it is a small town, but, like Marion, it has such charm I will be visiting down there sometime this year. I wish you lots of luck finding your New Beetle!
