Default Newbie NB TDI owner....

Just joined up and here to introduce myself.

Purchased my NB TDI almost two months ago due to my commute for work which is 74.3 miles one-way. Of course, I've always liked the New Beetle's and have been looking at going TDI for over two years and finally took the plunge.
I picked up a 2001 New Beetle, TDI, 5-speed with 159K on it. Black in color with Tan leather interior.
So far, I regret not purchasing one earlier. I really like how it drives, handles and the MPG of course, is great.
That's one area I would like to improve because right now, my daily commute is only averaging me 39 MPG. I hit 40 last week for the first time but fill-ups have ranged from 36 MPG to 40 MPG. Of course, I drive on the turnpike and set the cruise at 75 to 80 mph. I'd say my commute is 80% highway.
Anyway, hello to all. Glad to be here.

For better mpg's, here is a thread with some tips:
Newbies and Vets: Tips for better fuel economy! - TDIClub Forums

I've found my mpg vary a good bit with speed and terrain.
If its flat and I go in the low 60's mph then I get close to 50mpg.
If its hilly and I go 80 mph I get mid 40's.
Auto or manual tranny plays a part in it too.

Thanks for the info, I've been over there before and read over things in the past. Might be a few things I've missed.

Appreciate the information! Oh, and after all i read about the automatics, I kept my eye out for a 5-speed
