Default New to the forum and new beetles

Hi, My name is Timmy and I am new to new beetles but not bugs. I spent about 15 years of my life repairing and restoring older VWs, hence the user name "bugshop". I worked on any and all VWs pre 1990.
I'm about to pick up my first new beetle. If all of my info is correct it is a 2001 GLS turbo. It has had some issues (not sure what they all are yet) so I'm getting a very good deal on it.
More info, and I'm sure plenty of questions, to come as soon as I get her home.

Welcome to the org. There is of a bunch of us from SC. Oh yeah, you have that you're from SD.
We are having a Get To Gether (GTG), at Lake Murray in October. Check out Events forums.
In May is the "BIG" GTG in the mountains of NC. It's called "TOD" or "Tail Of the Dragon". Would like to see you at both, if possible.

LOL that's funny.. I'll have to correct my location...

"Fountain Inn" We drove by you today on the newly redone I 385.

I kinda thought the gtg was "get to gether" bit wasn't sure.

We got her home this afternoon and am charging the battery now. I hope to get into it tomorrow.
Got a little history about what has been done to it and what the symptoms are.

Here is a pic of it on the dolly on it's way home.

Thanks, I think so

The outside looks good, the inside needs cleaning.
It has less than 90k and has good compression and oil pressure.
work done so far is:
The oil pump, cam chain tensioner, Thermostat, waterpump, timing belt and tensioner, serpentine belt and tensioner and lots of other stuff including the coil pack wiring harness. Which leads me to the problem... no fire to two cylenders...

I haven't researched this any yet and haven't tested anything yet myself. They said something is killing the battery and it was dead so I disconnected it and I'm charging it over night.

Sadly most of my experience is with pre 1990 VWs air and liquid cooled.
I found myself getting into restoring aircraft interiors and have gotten away VWs. But now my teen aged kids are getting me back into them again LOL
But with the economy having such an impact on aviation, I may find myself having to fall back on my mechanic background.

Awesome! Im a "former" mechanic too, and still have all my tools in storage...just in case.

I had gotten away from cars in general myself and into motorcycles....rode BMW's for about 8 years and worked on Suzuki, Kawasaki, Aprilia and Moto-Guzzi. Ended up getting a bug as a replacement car and having a ball with it!

Welcome to this Forum. I'm nearby in Simpsonville. Also new to NB VW's. But have always done my own service work on cars over the years. Everything from basic stuff to major overhauls and/or rebuilds. Sometimes helps to have another perspective when dealing with a troublesome car issue. Get back to me anytime if you want to discuss an issue with your NB. I know I'll be contacting you if something comes up that has me stumped.

And Again, Welcome!

WOW, another South Carolinian

Welcome to the Org, the best new beetle resource anywhere.

And please check out the threads in the "events" section. Like Kurt mentioned, we're having an all day GTG on Lake Murray in October and a 3 day Tail of the Dragon GTG next May. That one is an annual event held the 1st Saturday in May.
