Hi!
These days you can google vw and the p-code and get a good result. This is what p1426 is from Google: VW Volkswagen OBD-II Trouble Codes P1426: Tank Ventilation Valve Open Circuit You need to ensure you screw the gas cap on until it clicks. You can spend $40 for a code reader at autozone and reset the CEL after you've closed the gas cap till it clicks. the 2.0 is a good motor, so long as the belt was replaced the car should go another 100k, if it's an automatic i'd highly advise you change the automatic transmission fluid in it (vw claims it is lifetime, it is now) to get the most out of it. some make it to 200k but the majority do not. the 2.0 auto seems to have the best bet, i personally worked with a yellow 1998 that had 211,000 miles on the original engine and automatic transmission, but she seemed to be the exception and she had the car very well maintained.

Wow, I didn't know the NB would go 200,000 miles! I have had my 1999 2.0 just a year this month. I bought it at 108,000, now it is 114,000. I am just hoping to maintain it well enough to make it last til I can afford the 2009 Blush edition.
