Default Hopefully, soon to be NB owner!

Well, here is my first post. I just went to one of my local VW dealerships yesterday and put a deposit on a 2006 NB coupe, Salsa Red, 2.5L, Package 1, with Triptronic auto trans! This will be my first Beetle (not to mention my first VW).

The deal is that I am currently driving a loaded 2000 Dodge Grand Caravan AWD which is not bad but it is starting to show it's age and I want something with better gas milage. I did initially look for a TDI but none of the dealers around here have any. However, I think the 2.5L is going to give me better milage than this V6 3.8L, don't you??

The only thing thats a killer for me is that I have a $1000+ Alpine stereo system in the Caravan which is going to be traded in towards the Beetle. It would take way too much work to pull it all out and I don't even have the factory radio anymore . Ah well.... as long as the Monsoon unit sounds decent I guess I can live with that - especially the MP3 capability!

Well, just wanted to drop in, say "Hello", and introduce myself. I'm waiting for the dealership to get back to me with the details on the delivery so....

Looking forward to being a part of the NB community!

Welcome to the Org!

Don't know what to tell you about the stereo. It may not fit in the NB.

If your New Beetle has Monsoon, you will be happy. Add a sub, and you will be amazed!

Have fun with your Salsa Red New Beetle!

Yes, the head unit is a Monsoon. Is it easy to hook up a sub to this one? Is it a dealer option or something aftermarket I would pop in myself? I'm thinking it would probably be a self-powered sub, right? What about space concerns?

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone. Still trying to sort out the financing aspect but getting closer. Being "upside-down" on my trade is killing me - autos lose value so quickly!

We put an aftermarket trunk mounted sub in the TDI w/Monsoon, that we used to have. It shook your insides! Since we are old, and we like it loud, it would almost make us nauseous

If it helps, I was "upside-down" big time when I got my 2002. I had just bought a 2002 Explorer, and ditched it three months later for my Bug. Huge loss. Zero regret.

Good luck to you!

Things are still on schedule and if everything goes as planned I'll be picking up my new baby at noon this Saturday! I'm going to try and take some pictures when I pick her up.

I am both excited and feeling a little down. I told myself in the past that I would never buy a brand new car again because it stresses me out. Now I have to worry about the first little ding or scratch all over again. And looking at the weather forecast it's saying that there is a possibility of a big winter storm coming Sat night....oh great... snow = salt & sand all over the roads. Grrrrrrr!!!!!!!

welcome to the org! salsa red is a HOT color! how exciting!

i know what it's like to own a new car. my previous car was bought new and i was so paranoid about it. i swore to never buy new again after that. you might as well go put a scratch on it and get over it. just kidding.

can't wait to see pictures!

There's no apostrophe before an 's' when you're talking about the plural version of a word. "I took some neat photo's!" is NOT correct.

Default Pull the Alpine !

Hello and welcome,
Pull that Alpine out of the van and have it put in the beetle!
The factory head unit in my 2002 Turbo S sounded "OK", I replaced it with the inexpensive Pioneer from my Trade-in and it sounds great.
I still have the factory speakers.
Your local auto sound place should be able to remove & replace your Van system (head unit) and reintall it in your NB for about $50. + parts.
My shop had to order the trim kit, it took two days.
Have fun and crank it up!

It's official...

I am now the proud owner of a 2006 Salsa Red New Beetle coupe 2.5L Package 1!

I couldn't get the smile off my face the whole ride home. I must say that the Monsoon stereo systems sounds great! I am really suprised how much bass I am getting even without a sub. I am totally happy with it.

Since a big snow storm is due tonight I have her all tucked away in the garage safe & sound. She looks so sparking clean that it will be a shame to bring her out in the muck come Monday morning. Ah well, the joys of living in New England.

Stop by the photo section, I plan on posting a picture there.

Default Congrats!!

I had a 1970 Beetle a couple of years ago and have recently purchased a new one. You will not reget your purchase. They are trully remarkable cars. I couldn't be happier with mine. I bought it used. It is a 2001 and it is bright yellow. I am here to say once you own a VW you will allways respect they way they are put together!!
