Default Beetle Couture - 2000 GLS 1.8T

Hey everyone!

I just found this site and i'm so glad to be a member. I bought my first NB on January 11, 2006 and i'm so happy!

I'm 20 years old, this is the first car i've purchased on my own. Unfortunately it's been in the shop more than i've had it in my garage but I will never complain because I love my Couture Beetle! She's the best.

I bought her used from a dealership in Laurel Maryland with 74,500 miles on her. She's a Black 2000 Automatic 1.8 Turbo and all stock!

So far I have purchased new tail lamps, I'm taking her to get tinted this weekend, and hopefully soon I'll be able to get rims. Eventually she's going to get a complete paint job where I work because she's got some major paint chips from highway driving but it just adds to her personality!

I'm looking forward to meeting all of you,

Peace, Love, and Couture
Ashley<3

ALSO WOULD ANYONE IN THE MARYLAND/DC/VIRGINIA AREA HAVE AN INDEPENDENT SHOP THEY WOULD RECOMMEND TO HAVE MY TIMING BELT REPLACED. I CAN'T AFFORD THE $708.33 VW IS CHARGING. THXXXX!

I love mine too! I was able to get the dealership to change my timing belt and water pump in my purchase deal. I've got 59k mine on mine, and i found a rec to do it on this site before I bought it! Hope all is well.

If its just the clearcoat, you could wet sand the entire thing and re-clearcoat instead of an entire paint job.

Welcome! Very nice car.

Whereabouts is Nanjemoy? I've never heard of it before. I grew up in MD so I'm interested. :P

Hey Ashley, congrats on the purchase! Car looks great.

I've lived in MD my whole life, I'm right by DC. I just started taking my car to a place called "Wheaton Service Center" in Wheaton, they work exclusively on VWs. They've been in the business since the 60's and are all very nice guys. Try that place if you're close by!

Don't laugh, but I saw the original opening of Herbie the Love Bug when I was around 16 at the Wheaton Plaza Mall (around 1968?)!!!

wow really? Small world! The main theater is still there (kind of a dump, but there), but the theater in the mall got torn down when Macy's trampled in. Did you used to live in Wheaton?

Potomac. This was BEFORE Montgomery Mall was even built, so it was the closest theater! In fact, where Mont. Mall is now was a Boy Scout camp when I was a kid...

Welcome, very nice car. Here's what I recommend: go to www.ecstuning.com buy their timing belt it has everything needed including water pump and then go find a shop and pay for labor only that way they aren't ripping you off on the parts. Labor should be about 3-4 hours so around $200-250 + the kit which is $160

Oh thanks! That helps a lot! I actually work at a body shop but even buying the parts net instead of list was still going to run me pretty high. Thanks again!

Thanks I will definitely check that out. I bought my car not too far from Wheaton so it shouldn't be too far of a drive for me.

Nanjemoy is in Charles County, on the Potomac River. Right near LaPlata, Indian Head, and Waldorf. It's definitely a drive, but peaceful! Where did you grow up?
