Default Buy a Beetle??

Hi guys! I'm new to NewBeetle and I'm also not a Beetle owner! I'm thinking of becoming one though.

I've got an opportunity to buy a 2004, 55,000 miles, sun roof, very well maintained. Close friends, asking $5,000.

Knowing nothing about Beetles, I took to the Internet. People have not been kind to the beetle! I've been told to beware: transmission at 60k miles, valves at 80k, and electrical at 100k. It's pretty scary!

However, my GF loves Beetles, and she deserves nice things. I figure this is a good place fore advice!

Good/Bad anything helps! Thanks!!

It's no secret that our New Beetles, and really, any VW, needs maintainence. If the one you are looking at has been taken care of, consider it. 2004 was a pretty good year.

Even with the low mileage, the timing belt is seven years old. If it has an automatic, is it a Tiptronic? What engine does it have?

Our cars let us know when they need something. But, we love them.

Good luck to you, and one word of advice:

Our New Beetles are so much fun, they should be illegal!

One must also remember that those who have negative experiences with a specific make of car appear to stand out more because those who have no problems don't bother to post comments. My 2000 GLS Beetle has 84,000 miles and an automatic and runs perfectly.
