Hi everyone,
I've been lurking on here for a while but thought I should take the time to introduce myself. I recently bought a 07 New Beetle for my wife. It is tan with tan leatherette interior, moonroof, monsoon CD, 5 speed and has about 67K mi. I liked the car so much that I decided to look for one myself. Soo... I found a 99 silver GLS(I think) 5 speed with 116K mi, black leather and moonroof. I'm picking it up tomorrow and I'm hoping to get some pictures this weekend and I'll post them up asap.

I think I'm going to have to find a stock radio for the 99 as it has been replaced with a cheap aftermarket one. It has the factory CD changer in the trunk so I'm hoping it still works. (fingers crossed) If anyone has a stock radio for sale please let me know...

Welcome to the Org!

The tan color is called "Harvest Moon Beige", and we want pics!

It love that you are heading for Double Dubness. That happened when my (now ex) husband got my first one, a 6-speed Turbo S. He had to get his own after that, the TDI. I understand how that happens.

Congrats for the 09, and pre-congrats for the 99. Oh, and we want pics of that too!

Welcome to the org!

As both of your beetles are a bit up in age, and mileage, do you know if the timing belts/ water pump/ tensioner/ roller have been replaced? When our bugs get up in age and miles, changing the timing belt is crucial. If that bad boy breaks, you're looking at big time money to rebuild/replace valves and the head. And God forbid it the valves hit the pistons. Also our water pump impellars are made of plastic and crap out as years, and mileage rack up.

So make sure these issues have been taken care of. We want you and your bride to have a long happy life with your beetles. OH and by the way, you, your wife and your beetles are invited to join us in May for the 4th annual ToD- Tail of the Dragon cruise/weekend. Click the link in my signature for the info. We've got a good number of folk up your way coming down for the event- hope you'll join us .

Thanks for the kind welcome and advice. I never thought I would be a new beetle owner but I have caught the "bug" so to speak. I was told the timing belt was changed but I plan to change it anyway to be sure. Cheap insurance IMO. I wasn't aware of the water pump impellar so it is something I will look into. I was under the impression that the 07 has a timing chain instead of a belt but have not verified that. It seems that there aren't any other real issues with these cars which is a relief after owning numerous GM products over the years. Gotta love german engineering. I had already looked over the welcome kit...excellent wealth of info. I also found the thread regarding the "secrets" about the bug.

The TOD event looks like great fun so we might have to look into it. Not too far from us either so it is a possibility.

I will post pics as soon as I can get some. The 99 needs a bit of tlc but it is in good shape for its age. I already found answers to its issues on here. (thanks BTW). I have to redo the headliner, repair the fuel door release and possibly adjust the latch for the rear hatch. Otherwise a bit of polishing and scratch fix should have it looking good again.

I'm picking the 99 up today and can't wait to take it for a nice long drive.

You are correct, the '07 has a timing chain. Sounds like you are on the right track with the '99 too! Welcome!

Cool. At least that's one I don't have to mess with. I can't wait to start tinkering with the 99...

Nice to see another VA member. ToD sounds like a blast so we'll have to see if we can make it. I can't believe how many bugs I've seen around here...very popular in the area. I don't remember seeing this many where I use to live...
