Hi!
I got it a year ago. It has 94,000 miles.
I really love my car but it is acting weird lately. I have to take it every 3 months for service to validate the warranty for the dealer. I took it a week ago and everything was fine, in fact the guy told me that it was the first time he saw a good looking bug in our area.

I did not drive it for couple of weeks so, when I tried to turned on, it didn't start. My first impression was the battery. We checked that, plugged the bug and started fine. What it does now is that while driving, the battery light came on and just stop. It used to do that while stopping on a red light. Today the light came up and stopped while driving.
The car turns back on fine after that.
We also tested the battery and they said it was fine.
I have no idea what is going on

Well first off i never heard of going to the drl every three month's to keep the wart in check But you do what you have to do.I have read alot about a cheap factory wire that goes from the alt to the fuse box on top of the battery .You might want to look at that and the fuse box they seem to fry /melt.Im sure their are alot of more exp people her that will chime in when they get on line to help one of them is indy tom .I guess at worst take it back to the drl for they seem to be the one's that have to do the work under your contract terms ?? but not sure read your fine print on your contract.I would hate to see you void it for playing with it yourself???

Welcome to the Org! Great to have you aboard!

Newbie Welcome Kit!

Sorry to hear you are having issues. It seems minor but I know it probably is driving you crazy.
As matt423 already mentioned you might want to check the battery connections to the alternator. You said you had the battery tested. How was this done? Was it just tested to see if it was holding a charge or did they do a test to determine if one or more cells are weak? If it was just a simple test it may still be the battery since one of the cells might still be bad. If you have a gauge like a Scangauge II you can check the voltage going to the battery. It should be between 13.2-14.2 if the alternator is charging properly. Is your check engine light on? If not there might still be some codes stored but probably can only be read via VCDS/Vag com software. I would see if Autozone or perhaps another Autoparts store can do another test on the battery and perhaps also on the alternator.

Good Luck and welcome aboard!

Thanks IndyTom!

Lots of information. Well, we took it to a different place last week. Once again, they said nothing was wrong. The good thing is that the car did not started up after they "finished"
They replaced the battery and also gave us and estimated for the minor vacuum leak, which was $600.00.
I've been driving the bug since then and it is working fine. I saw where the leak is and it is very tiny.

A guy from AutoZone suggested some kind of glue before taking it back, he said that was quite expensive and we might want to take it to a different place.

So far it is doing fine

So your orignal problem was the battery? I hope they didn't charge you a million bucks for replacing it. Pep Boys sells a BOSCH Battery for the Beetle for 103.95. The dealer probably charged you a little more than that?!

Okay, so where is this $600 Dollar vacuum leak? That is just totally crazy!! There is no hose or item on that car that can cause a $600 vacuum leak. Those people are Big Time Crooks!! Let me know which part you need and I will find it for you and let you know how to install it. If you were closer I even come over and install it for you for FREE. I just can't stand Dealers that take advantage of people with wanting to fix a vacuum leak for $600 dollars. That just gets under my skin. Let me know where it is and we will figure it out together.
I wouldn't recommend glue or Silicone sealer in a vacuum area since it can be sucked into the engine and clog something and make matters worse. The part that needs replacing can't be that much.

Well, this is a nightmare. After replacing the battery the car was doing fine. Couple of weeks after had the same problem. I decided to took it to the VW dealer. They keep it for 4 days, drove it to see if the car stopped as did to me while I was driving. It never stopped, but they told me that while they ran tests something came up wrong on the gas filter so they replace it. Got it back, and once again everything fine for 2 more weeks. The car died one more time while I was getting in a parking lot. Turned back on fine, but few days after the engine light came up. I also notice a weird noise and not responding as used to. Autozone code was P2279
I took it back to the dealer, they checked the fuel pump and was fine. It has been a week and they haven't figure it out. Now the car dies more often according to them. They said they have been in touch with VW Germany trying to get more information.
I am pretty sure you read this before here, but I have no clue about cars so I apologize if I do not use the proper terms.
This is so frustrating, and seems that was bad idea took it to VW, thought that would be my best choice because THEY ARE VW

I am so sorry that you are having so many issues with your beetle. The 2.5 is usually a very steady motor with a lot less issues than the older 1.8 or 2.0's.

What I can't believe is that a VW dealership with certified VW mechanics can't find the issue.
The P2279 code indicates a leak in the air intake system. Have they done a pressure test to see if there is a possible leak or perhaps a bad Intake Manifold gasket? Have them check and replace the PCV valve. Have them check the SAI (Secondary Air Injection) pump and the check valve controlling the pump.
It could be your VSS (Vehicle speed sensor), or your ignition switch. They do go bad and can cause issues with starting.

Personally, I would take it somewhere else. Those charges must be adding up and I don't know if I would trust that dealer. Is there an independent VW repair shop in the area? Perhaps it is time for a second opinion.

I wish I could help you further and if I were closer I would. There are so many things that could cause your issue but a competent VW mechanic should be able to track it down in a timely manner. I don't see any reason for them to keep your car for 4 days and not finding out what the problem is.

Keep us posted and Let me know if there is anything else I can do to help.

Okay, I may have found your problem. It seems it is a common issue with the 2.5 engine.
It is the diaphram of the PCV valve. It does get torn and then causes all sorts of issues. The stupid thing is that the diaphram can not be replaced by itself. It is part of the 2.5 Valve cover and the only way to replace it is to replace the entire valve cover. The Valve cover costs $150 bucks and can be installed by anyone with a bit of mechanical knowledge. The dealer will rip you off and charge you about $600 bucks to do this. I would look around to see if there is a shop around that would do it for less.

Anyway, the official name for the part that is kaputt is the
pressure regulator valve for crankshaft housing ventilation.
It is part of the Valve cover and here is where it's located:

The new valve cover part number is 07K103469M

Here is a link for buying the Valve cover:

2006 VOLKSWAGEN BEETLE Parts - Cheap Volkswagen Parts

Home Page > Search > 07K103469M > ES#285872 COVER - 07K103469M

Here is where I found the information:

http://www.vwforum.com/forums/f29/2-...v-valve-42034/

I am almost 100% sure that this is it. It would be easy enough to check.

Good Luck and please keep us posted!
