Hi there! I stumbled across this forum on sort of a downer moment in my Beetle-owning life. I have a 2003 Silver/Green Chromaflair NB. I absolutely love this car. I had wanted to own a Beetle ever since I was a kid, it's truly my dream car. But, now I have three kids. We have a bigger car that we tote the kiddies around in, but life has gotten to the point where we both need to be able to have all three kids either car. We can take two kids in the Beetle, tops. Even with one, getting a child in/out of the Beetle is a pain. So, we settled on trading in the Beetle for a minivan.
Well, today I was looking up 2003 Beetles on AutoTrader, and just started bawling.

There have been a few other times we thought of selling the Beetle because it's just not a practical car for us anymore, and I always end up backing out. But really, we should. I've even thought of mothballing the Beetle until are kids are older, but that's just ridiculous. Then I think of trading it in, not knowing who the car would go to. Would they appreciate the coolness of the Chromaflair paint? What would the dealership do with it, auction it? It just makes me so sad!
I know I'm being a total dork. But then I found this forum, browsed around for a bit, and thought hey, I bet they would understand!
Those of you who have had to sell your Beetles in favor of a more practical car, how did you do it? Or did you just say the heck with it and find a way to keep the Beetle. We don't have unlimited funds, so really have three cars, I don't see how that would work. Husband and I both work and are doing a lot of "you take this car today, I'll take this one..." having to think every morning of what we have going on, who needs to pick up which kid, that's the reason for needing to get a bigger car. The other car is Saturn Vue, and that just barely fits the whole family.
Anyway, thanks for letting me ramble on!
