Just joined this forum to be informed about the new Beetle turbo which is what I'm the process of buying. This will be my 1st VW and I'm kind of nervous more than exited as I heard horror stories about the VW's and the problems that they have once the warranty expired.
I've only had Japanese vehicles and have learned to work on them never having any major issues that the dealer or myself couldn't fix.
I have a FJ Cruiser that will be traded for a candy white Turbo, navi, manual etc in transit as I post. My company gives me an employee discount w/ VW that I will use. Waiting for Monday to see if I can get the 0% finance which will make or break the deal. Hope to post again w/ good news.
I don't get why most my male friends are totally against this trade...they think the Beetle is a "girls car".

thanks dnyed, I love the retro look on cars therefore my FJ is a machine that I'm having a hard time getting rid off or better said trade, my wife owns a 2012 Prius fully loaded and I wish the FJ had the same options and gas milage, the Beetle seems to fit the bill but I'm not desperate in trading therefore if it's meant to be ..it is (crossing my fingers just in case lol)
Can I be nosey and ask why so many VW's on your sig??

My first NB was my 2002 Turbo S. Then my then hubby got his 2003 TDI. We then got our 2005 Convertible - had all three at once! Then we had to part with one. It was the TDI. We then had only the two. Our son grew taller, we needed a bigger car. Traded my beloved 02 TS, for the Passat. Not long after, he wants a divorce. Left me with a big car, that I didn't need. I gave him back the Passat, and got me another Turbo S. Later on, I bought a house, and needed a larger vehicle, in comes the Touareg. The hefty payments on that were burying me, so sold and now the 2002 GLX. I learned my lesson. I need to just stay with my beloved New Beetles. However, a B12+ will be in my future.

This place is a wealth of information. They make me feel like I can do anything for my new beetle all by myself if I just put my mind to it and click on the right thread...think I'll run outside and change the timing belt/water pump real quick before I leave for work tonight...lol. Never thought I would feel like I could work on my own car again since they got all computerized and lost their carberators; but the org has shown me it isn't all that scary and it can be done.

Another thing I have found here is that there are tons of men on this forum that love their NB and are constantly modding and primping and buffing up their babies. It seems like they outnumber the girls. Tell your male friends to take your new beetle for a ride, maybe down a sweet mountain road full of curves and see if they still think it's just a "girls car." Take a look at the Tail of the Dragon thread to see what's going on there, it would be the perfect curvy road to try. My hubby thought the nb was a girly car for me, he said he'd never drive it. I talked him into taking the wheel when we went out to dinner one night and I catch him driving her now more often than not when he walks out to the driveway and finds his Nissan and my Iggy both sitting there ready to go

Thanks for the welcoming and reply, I value input from people but don't when it's just an opinion.Facts is what counts, if most my friends would tell me that my tetosterone level will drop with every mile I drive becaeuse....then I would reconsider my purchase, but to define which car is for which gender, well I'm sorry those are just opinions based on hang ups...I just got done watching the remake of Footloose...the Bug the main character drove was the one I grew up in and a couple of my uncles still drive them in South America, one drove it thru Brazil and when there was no gas he put kerosene...how about them apples..

I literally just LOLed...my co-workers now officially think I'm crazy (well, I guess they always knew I was). What if I told you your testosterone level would increase with every mile you drive because...I am a registered nurse and I said so?

That's awesome. Never really thought about doing that one. Older cars let you get away with so much more than you can do with the newer ones didn't they?

Thank's IggysMom, at my age I need all the tetosterone I can get and being a "bodybuilder" the only tetosterone I can get comes in liquid form and well I hate needles and doing fine on my own, I received a call from the dealer and was approved for the 1.9% which was the deal breaker. My wife is not so happy I'm turning in out FJ since she feels we need a 4x4 for the Winter which makes me ask anyone who is reading this post as to how this vehicle handles in the snow. I shouldn't even be worried, I grew up in N.E. with rear wheel cars and did just fine, but again if I'm keeping a vehicle just for "that" blizzard, then is like having a boat to go ice fishing, you don't need one unless the lakes aren't frozen, but my analogies sometimes don't make sense, must be the Geritol...well please let me know I have until 10am today to place my deposit and I'm having second thoughts, but i saw this long video on you Tube from a mexican dealer ship ( did U know they're built in Mejico? I didn't) that does a 30 minute test drive and I was watching it like I was watching the fast and the Furious, the only thing missing was the pop corn , well not getting off the subject and don't want to bore you anymore...it's 4:12 am and I need to "pump some iron" to keep my girly figure so that in case I do buy the Beetle all I will need is lipstick to fit right in(j/k)..

Seeing as how I live in Florida, driving in the snow will not be an issue. We have been talking about relocation to NE Tennessee though so I looked into that exact question before I decided to get a nb. From what I read on the interwebs they handle pretty well in the snow, especially with ASR. IDK about the b12s/b13s; and like I said, my knowledge is from internet surfing, not actual experience. There should be plenty of northern peeps on here that will know from personal experience though. Glad all is going in your direction so far.

P.S. let me know what color lipstick you decide on...lol

..lol...deposit made, no call from salesman as to when they will have it on the lot since it's from another dealer...salesman's wife is almost due so I'm pretty sure he is a busy guy, plus snowed here in MA and when that happens all salespeople spend most of the day moving cars for he plows to clean the lots ( saw this happen at a Honda dealer when my son was picking up his car)
Getting finally exited and less stressed with making the decision, going to miss the FJ but why keep it in the garage all week and just take it out on weekends around town and watch the gas gage go from full to empty in no time..grrr.
So hopefully next post will be a pic of this girly man with a Bug..wish m luck

Update...I had 2nd thoughts and put this on hold due to the fact that the dealer couldn't get the vehicle on the transport trailer to them and was shipped to the dealer that had originally allocated the car..the salesman's wife gave birth to a baby girl (sincerely I wish him the best)..a day went by and on the way home I saw the turbo Beetle at night and was hypnotized "again" by the LED's and decided to call the dealer...but to my surprise they had called me at work and were willing to give a better deal ($100 more than the $500 from invoice for the same car) and a hat for me and the wife...lol...I just came back from the dealer and this sale helped them meet their monthly quota woo hoo...right but could not take it home because there is a recall on the passenger side airbag sensor and it would take them a day or so to get the part and do the install...They gave me a loaner automatic turbo, I guess a base model since thee is no sunroof, navi or led lights..not sure with a full tank to take home until my car is ready..so no pics yet friends, but I sure will be posting them ASAP...this loaner is "cute", don't like the decal turbo on the sides but I guess is better that driving my FJ for a few more days so tomorrow after I leave my torture palace I may take it on the highway to feel the speed....anyway I'm full, having had some carbs at Applebees both liquid and solid to celebrate so it's nighty night...thanks for reading

So I took the loaner out for a ride on the MA Pike, did good, had the wifey w/ me and could not really "test it"..not to go off subject but she is a breast cancer survivor and after the radiation treatments she has developed numerous issues including her equilibrium and depth perception therefore I drove as best I could w/ out her being disturbed.
It was snowing but no accumulation was on the ground and felt secure, I can't wait to get my "Fatboy" home and since she will be visiting my stepson for a few days down South I will be able to drive the car like I stole it, hope to reach the break in mileage before I do this of course...one thing I know for sure is that turbos require higher octane but I think the dealer uses 87 and on that note I noticed a turbo lag big time which i know on my car will be corrected after the 2nd tank full...just saying

it was hard to convince her but she is a research "freak" and once we had signed the deal and got home I woke up at 2 am and she was online looking for the features, telling me about the 'fob' and all thing you can do like opening the windows, closing the sunroof...etc. I wish the dealer would have taken care of the loaner since there is this annoying 'clunk" coming from the rear and I thought it was the stuff that I had placed in the trunk and it was not, I also adjusted the trunk cover since it was loose but ope it didn't do the trick, I know is a loaner 2012 w/ 7k miles and hope my "fatboy" doesn't develop that noise...hopefully tomorrow after work I can pick "him" up..

Ya, you need to remember that the new Beetles are basically a brand new model, and my have "bugs" to work out. Kinda like the release of the '98s.

The loaner is a 2012 Turbo and the one I just purchased is a 2013, hopefully you're correct and mine has had all the "bugs" taken care of...lol bugs ..can't wait


UPDATE...picked up "GORDO" it was dark and cold therefore I didn't take pictures, wifey is going out of town for a few days and if I can figure out the timer on the camera I will post pics of both of us, otherwise I will just post some pics and link them as well to FB so that some of my macho friends can "unfriend" me for having a "girls" car...can't believe some ppl..lol
