2012 Beetle 2.5 L fuel type?

What type of fuel do the 2012's take? All the Vw sales people say Regular/87 octane, but the manual says that it takes 87-91.

From what I hear, the 2.5's are designed to run regular 87.

I was told 87. The fuel cap on my 2.0 T says 91 or Premium. I've not seen any issue with 87. But I'm running 93 now.

There is no advantage to running a higher octane than 87 with the 2.5 unless you chip it or modify the hell out of it.

Stick with the cheap stuff it loves it.

I was reading that the new 2.0t will run without problem with 87. Its the 1.8t that doesn't like 87.

Yea, my 1.8 threw Knock Codes all the time on 87. Didn't resort to it but once when the premium price was close to $4.50/gal last summer. Learned quick on that one.

The 2.0T will run just fine on 87. BUT you get better mileage and power with 93. Unless your desperate and short on funds I wouldn't recommend 87 in the TSI 2.0. I did it once with my GTI, Pascal, and he burned gas so much faster it wasn't even funny.

What I've learn on buying gas. Stay away from Arco, 76, others cause they add water. I've been told to use chevron, Shell, Texaco for your mileage and performance. I've notice the difference on my Rav4. I use 87 on both cars.
