Car: MINI Cooper S John Cooper Works
Default New non-owner....

Hi all. I don't know what to say other than hi. I don't own a New Beetle, I have a MINI Cooper S with the John Cooper Works package, but a good friend of mine just got an '06 Beetle TDI manual. I've been looking over the forums for a few days and this seems like a friendly place. I found the info on "Euro switches", and I thought that was a neat tid-bit to know.

Anyway, I guess I'll drop in from time to time to look for ideas on mods and fixes and technical info. My buddy's wife briefly owned a silver Beetle Turbo S. It was a neat car and a crying shame that it was discontinued. It was peppy and it handled well. I'm pretty sure that we'll want to outfit the TDI with an equivilent suspension before too long. I think the Euro Switch will be the first item that gets attention.

Since we're new to VW products being in the fleet, how does a person lay hands on a factory shop manual? Is it paper, or a CD like BMW uses?

Any new owner tips for me to pass on to my buddy and his wife?

Rawhyde

PS If I had the extra cash, I'd snag a new TDI for myself to save on fuel.

Welcome! Tell your friend to visit www.tdiclub.com for more information on the TDI. Great forum for good information on the TDI.

For the shop manual, check out the Bentley manuals: http://www.bentleypublishers.com/

I believe you can get paper and/or the CD. The CD is coded so it only installs on one PC at a time if I remember correctly. They may have changed this however.

You've just met the best group of vw folks on the net!

Bentley makes both paper and cd; i'm a paperback kinda guy myself. I'd also say buying a VAGCOM setup (I think You need a CAN-based setup which also works with the older K-LINE Setup that all other MK4 VWs use), it'll save time and trouble when diaging or doing some maint. work to the TDI.

BTW: The mini coopers are really cool, I park next to a non-S at work all the time. He and charlie are good friends

My car, too, is "friends" with a MINI Cooper S convertible, in the parking garage at work.

Welcome to the Org! You are right about the friendliness here. We are not gonna snub anyone. A friend of the NB, is a friend of ours, owner or not!
