Default 13 inch white Macbook..bad logic board.

I also have a 13.3 inch white Macbook. This one had a liquid spill near the left IO board. The charger light flicks from red to green, and the screen will light up very briefly when the power button is depressed. The top pad has chips, the bottom case has some cracks. Currently has the top pad off, but the rest of the components in the bottom case.

Rest of computer is good, and includes Airport Extreme, a Superdrive, and a 80 GB HD. Ram is currently two 512 chips. Battery had been replaced a couple months before the liquid damage. This model has in integrated isight camera.

I would like to keep the power adaptor for my husband's Macbook Pro. Includes boot discs for Tiger.

Asking $400, shipping included. Overnight shipping extra. Pics to follow

Have you priced the parts to fix the computer? If so, how much to fix?

Have not priced the parts, but I imagine that it would need a new logic board

What processor is this? The logic board can cost as little as $350 to as much as $850 depending on the processor. I need to know the exact designation of the computer.

FYI - the power adapter is a $70 item to get another one.

Is that a Intel Core 2 Duo 2.0 processor? I'm guessing so based on the 2.0 at the first of the string. I'm not totally Apple savvy here and I'm trying to wrap my arms around what it would cost to fix versus buying a gently used one.

There is a huge price difference between the Core 2 Duo and the Core Duo 2.0 logic board ($399 vs $799). That's why I'm asking.

Sue, I am not totally sure. I got this to try to repair the current board myself, opened it up and realized I am clueless...what other numbers can I pull up that we can track this puppy down?

I have no idea. I'm going to try emailing a company with the serial number to see if they can tell what it is. I'm afraid the $400 price may be too high given the potential cost to fix versus buying a used system.

The case can be replaced and a lot of it fixed, but if it ends up costing $1500 ($400 + all the parts), then its not economical to fix. It might be better to put it on ebay and sell for parts. There are several on ebay and all are less than $200.

I just wanted something to putz around with. Play with Leopard and VMWare Fusion - just get to know a Mac.

The ending price on the ones on Ebay are usually in the four range, even if the hard drive has been removed. Gotta love people using sniper programs.

If I could find my darned camera cable, pics would be up...guess its time for a trip to Staples and see if they still make compact flash readers.

I just got off the phone with a tech at Powerbook Medic (www.powerbookmedic.com). Based on the serial number, this should be a Core 2 Duo 2.0 machine. Of course they would be happy to fix it for me/you for a small fee.

Let me reread everything and make a final decision. I want to check around for a better price on the logic board - $399 is still pretty steap.

info (just for card reader) - last time I was in Walmart, they had a Sandisk Imagemate 8 in 1 multi card reader - I think it was 25-30 bux . . . reads: CFI/II, xD, xD/SM, SD/MMC.
Nifty gadget -I use it all the time, conncets via USB (duh, right? ) but not sure if it's USB 1.0 or 2.0 - my desktop has both types
