Default WTB: tenor or bari sax

I was wondering if anyone here had either a tenor or bari sax that they are looking to get rid of. I used to play just about every reeded instrument in high school. I never owned a sax but I played it and loved it. My goal is to find a bari sax because that is my fav but I would be just as happy with a tenor. I might consider an alto but they are a bit too high for me, I like the low rich tones. Anyway, if you or anyone you know is looking to get rid of one, please let me know. I'd love to have one and start playing again! Thanks!

Man, a chick that digs diesel bugs AND Bari Sax?!? PERFECTION!!!

Anyways, I played Bari in HS, and I always wanted to pick one up as well... but then when I figured out just how much one goes for even used and worn out... well I guess I will just have to forget about it.

Now tenor OTOH... a buddy of mine just picked one of those up new on Ebay for a couple hundred bucks. I cant say anything for the quality of the instrument for that kind of money, but I can say that it was freaking sweet looking as the body is black with chrome hardware... awesome.

Well I browsed ebay and there are some bari saxs on there that are under $500. Not in great shape, but I think they could be fixed up. But yeah, new ones can cost $6,000 and up. I saw one on ebay that was going for $16,000 (more than my car... ) but man...was it ever pretty!! I think it was a very rare, something super special about it, but WOW is all I can say.

Check ebay, they have some, but they would be fixer uppers for sure.

And thanks! I like a lot of other things that guys think is strange for a girl. Hockey, racing, restoring cars, animals, getting into football now, etc. I'm kinda like a guy in a girls body, but I still like pink and dresses and things like that. weird haha

I used to fake the also in jr high. Just pushed keys so it looked like I was doing something I did play the bass clarinet though. That was awesome. I hated the normal clarinet because the keys were to small and hurt my fingers.

lol

I started on clarinet, moved to alto clarinet, then to bass clarinet, then to tenor sax, then somehow in the end, to bari sax. I was a fill in wherever my band teacher needed me. Which she loved because we had a very SMALL band, less than 50 people.

I started the same way except for Brass.

Trumpet --> French horn --> Baritone --> Trombone --> Tuba.

They needed a part played I'd be handed a case and a sheet of music.

I also taught myself to play tenor sax, i have one in my closet but its not for sale :P

Could you be swayed? lol

Cool! I didn't know you were a band geek, Michelle! I actually have a tenor sax, but it is not in working order. I play clarinet in three local community bands and was a music education major in college. I marched tenor sax and my horn got stepped on at the last football game I marched. The person who did it would never own up to what he did and I couldn't get any help getting it fixed. Anyway, just rambling! That is cool that we've got Beetlegeeks and Bandgeeks gathered in the same place!

Yeah, Matt played Trumpet as well. I started on Clarinet, played Alto Clarinet, moved to Bass Clarinet. Marched both clarinet and tenor sax. Then got moved to Bari Sax. lol I've been all over the place. How bad is the damage to the horn? Might still be worth fixing?

I think a lot of Beetlegeeks are Bandgeeks too! lol Just seems to fit. HAHA

The bell was stepped on. It will play notes in the middle register, just not the low notes. The low B and C are so finicky anyway, and with that damage it's about a $600 repair job to fix the dent and realign the keys. That was the cheapest estimate I got and that was 10+ years ago! Right now, if I'm going to spend that much money on a horn it's going to be my R-13! It needs routine maintenance, new pads, corks, etc.

hmm that's not bad. Most people are selling their tenors for that price AND it needs fixing. lol Would you consider giving it up if I decided to spend the money to fix it? Depending on repair price of course.

You ought to contact miffmole (Ken) -- I believe that's his field of expertise.

My band had about 35 people. haha.

Too bad you don't need an alto. I have a really nice Selmer that I will probably never use again.

If you needed an alto I have a real nice but use (since i was in 5th grade, now im in college) beuscher pro model, i have a tenor but i like to play it because it is a great second to bari. keep your kopes up, you'll find one, i got my tenor at a music store for about 600 used its only an intermediate high school model but it will do, they even threw in a free neck strap and box of reeds. never give up on the bari. someday when i have the money, im going to get a cannonball bari-sax. that $16,000 plus, but someday, i will have one.
