Unhappy Help...Bumper Clear Coat Trouble!

Alrighty, so being a good NB owner I am...ha...I go and wash Bubbles in one of those 15 minute car wash bays in my area, well....upon washing and getting bug guts off of my front bumper, my clear coat started peeling off, and its not just a small area its about...3 x 4 inches...of paint now, with NO clear coat. What would be the best way to go abouts with this? Should I just get a bra to put on my car? Or do you think its worth spending the money and getting the bumper re-painted? If repainted, what paint code to I use for my batik blue?

HELP!!! Any suggestions or ideas are greatly accepted!

Your paint colour is on a sticker in the owners manual, or in your boot, somewhere near your spare tyre.

Could you possibly just reapply the clear coat - I got a can of each with my re spray paint. Not sure how to go about repairing my scratch though

i'd like to bump this thread as i am now having the same problem.

while washing curby at the car wash, i noticed a very thin layer of clear coat peeling off as well, about 1/2" by 1/2".

besides repainting the entire bumper is there anything else i can do? i don't want it to spread, but i don't have $600 to get the bumper repainted right now (or ever).

HELP!

There's no apostrophe before an 's' when you're talking about the plural version of a word. "I took some neat photo's!" is NOT correct.

Hi. As the fairly new but very proud owner of a well used NB (2001) which I am going to spend two years fixing up for my law school daughter, I know of your clear coat issue. And, I have a Batik Blue Bug. First, the good news is, the paint code is LG5T which on my original window sticker was called Dark Blue Pearl. That little sticker in your trunk near the spare tire will show you the code for the paint, which will confirm the LG5T. From newbeetle.org I discovered the following website: PaintRef.com
It is very helpful. Now the bad news. You will need to get your bumper repainted with clear coat. So, get an estimate from a paint/body shop for sanding and repainting the clear coat OR, cover it up with something like a bra or live with it. If you are like me, you'll not want to look at it. I am having my entire car painted in the Spring.
Yours,
BluBug48

Someone mentioned $600 to clear coat the bumper? I don't think so. Unless maybe that quote is removing the bumper (the correct way to do it). As the bumper is flexible, it does need the additive so that it does not craze when bumped. Clear coat peeling is not an indication that the bumper needs a new base coat. Not sure why there is even talk of same. Entire cars are regularly refreshed with just clear coat, if the base coat is in good shape. A third as much prep and less than half as much in material.

Im having the same problem on my 2001 techno blue. Mine is on the back bumper. It started as a small spot and now its 1/2" x 2". I thought maybe i could do new clear coat just right there at the bad spot and not the whole bumper. Is that right?
