I like to be clutter free but if you look at my garage it's a big mess.

So I try to buy things that have multiple purposes. I use WD40 to remove bug splats and tar as well. That stuff only stays on the car for a minute or two then when I'm satisfied, I wash it off. I definitely don't let it sit and soak for hours/days. Like wawalker mentioned, use heat aka hair dryer to remove first. Continue to use heat to remove the adhesive. Squirt a bit of WD40 to help remove the adhesive. And finally rinse with soap and water. You should be done in five minutes (assuming global warming and the nice weather we've been having :-).
Edit: Rereading your post, no, I don't apply WD40 and heat at the same time. Heat the emblem or sticker. It'll come off in a jiffy. Then continue to to apply heat to remove as much of the adhesive as you can. Finally, apply a bit of WD40 to remove the remainder. HTH
