Default 1.8T Spoiler Discoloration

OK, so my spoiler is horribly discolored and just plain ugly. It looks almost tarnished or oxidized - it's hazy, purple-y, dull, and yucky.

I tried everything I could think of to clean it off without further damage, but it looks like it's there for good...

Does anyone else have this problem?

Any ideas what it could be, or how to fix it?? Or will I just have to get it re-painted?

Super duper common prob, oh Joe Dirt! I had some success with Claybar and elbow grease, but it didn't go away entirely. Maybe I'll do it again and then wax it...

I claybared mine and then waxed it and it looks pretty darn good.
