Hey There!
I'm new to the forum and was perfectly happy with my simple Cyber Green Beetle until I started looking around here. I'll have to smack scaraby2k around a little for that.

So, now that I'm assimilated, I'm finding I'd like to do a few classy and subtle things to my NB. The hatch is dedicated to my faith...there's a Christian fish above the VW logo and a bumber sticker below (clear sticker with simple black lettering...nothing garish). So, nothing else happens there. I saw the car (was it Marvin's Dad or Martin's Dad?) that has Marvin the Martian hanging off of the VW emblem and just went nuts! I would love to put Kermit T. Frog on my gas cap cover or sitting on top of the front hood's VW emblem. I presume that's a custom paint job...how do I find someone who does that kind of work? I don't think I want vinyls, but if you want to make a case for them, please do.

I am a complete n00b about all of this...I know absolutely nothing. So, this is your opportunity to tell me what you know! I'm liking the hub caps (or are they wheel wells) that have detailing matching the car color. I may do the little fin spoiler, but my husband and I always make fun of cars with spoilers when we're on the road together...we think they're silly. I like the little eyelids for the headlights...are they more trouble than they're worth?

Talk to me, people!

Marvin hanging around is most likely vinyl, not paint. You can get one of them made for a small fee at a graphic or sign shop, just give them a design. Vinyl is great in case you ever want to take it off, but it's secure enough to stay on through all types of weather and conditions. Plus it's much much cheaper than having it painted on.

The wheels you speak of are called "Take 5" wheels, made by VW. They are on the color concept beetles and are very expensive if you buy them seperately. We're talking thousands here.

What kind of eyelids are you looking for? There's plastic and vinyl, sleepy and angry, etc etc. Depending which eyelids you're looking at will determine the "trouble"

A brand new door is opening up to me. The wheels are turning. So, I don't have to go to an auto detailing shop? And, I can wash over these things (or do I have to remove them for that)?

Well, forget that. I'm not that crazy (yet).

Well, I don't know! I saw some cute yellow ones on the slide show on the home page. Is there a website where I can peruse the options?

Thanks!

And...am I forgetting anything cool and reasonably priced that won't make my NB look...busy?

All of Marvin's images were "temporary tattoos"
I made them using a special low-tack adhesive with a clear plastic overlayer...also have some real "Cling-stick" media as well that I did this with.

I really don't know where you would go to get a permanent one.

You do not have to go to an auto store to get vinyl made. I have a sign shop around the corner from me that does vinyl work, they can make graphics if I supply them with an image. You do not have to take it off when you wash the car. In fact, once you take it off, that's it. You see the black stripes I got on my car? Those are vinyl. I've washed, clayed, and waxed over them numerous times and they look just as good as the day I put them on. Think stickers except it doesn't leave that nasty sticky stuff behind.

If you're looking for vinyl eyelids, the place I got mine from are good. Unfortunately, I can't remember the name of the site. I'll look around a little later. There are lots you can find on ebay also.

You can always paint some of the inside, either green or some other accent color. Most of the parts are removeable just by pulling on them.

It's really best to go to a small sign shop to get your vinyl done. I paid $75 for my stripes cut and put on. I'll be doing that again now that I have a second beetle as of today

So, I need to walk in the door with a full color template in hi-resolution, actual size?

Are those little eyelids VW add-ons or after-market items? The ones I saw on the home page actually stick up...not laying over the headlights. Anyone got a link?

And the spoilers...VW, after-market or both?

I've given up on the sun roof...hubby says that if it isn't done on the assembly line, I can be virutally guaranteed of leaks.

I'm guessing you don't have a sunroof from that statement, I would have to agree based on other discussions on the org regarding the aftermarket sunroof. Dunno anyone that has done it.

I don't know if a vinyl shop could do full color, they mainly cut out solid color vinyl. I know the ones that I do that are temporary will fade after a while...and they don't stay on very long with the media I used.

I think they can do full color, it's just a lot harder. I dunno, maybe I'm wrong.

All eyelids are aftermarket, VW does not make them. Here's a site with a good handful of eyelids that are 3Dish. Price is in pounds and they don't actually sell some of them anymore, but it'll give you an idea of what's out there and you can tell us which one you like: http://www.dubcessories.com/exterior/eyelids.shtml

Remember, ebay is also your friend! Lots of stuff there.

Spoilers can be OEM or aftermarket. I prefer the OEM ones myself.

Take 5 wheels can be purchased at www.wheelsandcaps.com for a fraction of what they cost new. Nathan knows VWs over there and helped me with my RS6 wheels. Give them a try.
