Default debadged now i think i got a problem

ok on my new car i debadged the emblems. when i did i thought i had some goo left over so i went and got the goo gone. now it appears as if i pulled off some clear coat from the area where the letters was. is there a way to fix this? in other words can i just get some rubbing compound and a buffer and fix it that way or and i going to have to get new badges again?

it all depends on what you did. if it just looks faded, some polish or more abrasive rubbing compound and then a coat of wax will make it dissapear.

idk what i did wrong. i took a credit card to the letter and pealled off like i do on all my cars. and when i use my fingure nail it feels like the clear is comming off. bc its just all clear paint. but im not 100% sure and dont want to keep rubbing in case it is the clear. the car is an 2004 so idk why the clear would come up and its not faded at all. and you can still cleary see the outlines of the letters on the car. and yah my mom got so pissed at me for this.

a picture is worth a thousand words. i really dont think that only clear coat will come off without taking any of the colored paint with it.

That's just residue of the dirt and grime that got under the letters and rested near the glue over the years. Goo gone and a cotton terry towel will take that right off. Then wax over it. It will look like letters were never there.

could also be wax buildup as well.

it does look a little like clearcoat tho.

i tried so much goo gone on that thing and some rubbing compound and alot of elbo greese and it didnt come out. and the thing that worries me is that the part where the letters are sits higher than the part in the middle of the letters so i sware its clear. now if it is clear is it possible to just get new letters and put them back and fix my problem or is it cheap to remove just the clear and have that part recleared only?

do you happen to know if the rear trunk of the stratus was ever repainted. It could be clear if the decklid was re-clearcoated and the body shop did not remove the letters.

That's what I was going to say. Normally I use dental floss to remove badges, a credit card seems a bit too hard to be rubbing paint with.

to be honest i dont know if it has been or not. i hate the car and wish i had my beetle back. is there a way to tell if the car has been wrecked before or not? and if it is clear can it be buffed out or should i just get new letters?

The way that i would do this as i did on an earlier car would be to get some methalated spirits (usually purple in colour) and using a soft cloth rub the excess paint/dirt etc off. Don't press to hard though as it may damage your paint. Hope this helps. oh and you may be able to use a heat hun to soften the glue a little.

ok i finally took the car to the dealer today. its definatly clear coat. appearantly it was cleared while the letters where on it. . so it will cost me 119 dollars to replace the badges :-(. no wi really hope this doesnt affend anyone. but is there any members around that can paint that can reclear this for me alot cheaper than the dealers would?
