Default Spray-painting a checkerboard

Hey people.

Well, it's come to the time where I decided I want to spray paint the underside of my hood (in the ditch thing) checkerboard, however, I can't figure out how I am supposed to tape it off to make perfect squares..can anyone suggest how I do it?

My first thought is to have a sign place make you a vinyl checkerboard; put it on, paint, then remove all the squares. A potentially cheaper solution would be to find square stickers, stick them on, paint, then remove them all. You might not get them to perfectly line up though.

Painting a checkerboard isn't easy, but it can be done. You'd want to put the lighter color as a basecoat, than you can put stripes of the darker color, than mask off the squares and go over it again with the basecoat. I vote vinyl.

Are you talking inside or outside? I think a bullseye would be more appropriate. I'm not teasing just sayin....
Paint the lighter color first, let it dry then use butcher paper and tape to make the squares.

The easy way to do it is to lay down a piece of vinyl and draw lines on it using a straight edge and a sharpie... then cut out the squares where you want paint.

or... you can have someone make you a checker board piece and then just peal out the pieces....
