Default adding fog lights

My girls bettle didnt come with fog lights. I was wondering how hard would it be to add them. I know that other models came with them, I was wondering how many things would i need to change around to make them work? Is it even worth it? Has anyone done it? thanks

I don't know of anyone that's added factory style foglights, but there are a number of aftermarket models available. I think I'm going to get a set of Hellas one of these days. If the Bug didn't come with fogs it isn't wired for them, so it would be pretty involved to fit them in there, but I'm pretty sure a factory switch would still work. You can do an eBay search for VW European Fog Light switch and see what you can find, also some vendors like www.1stvwparts.com might have them available.

I'll be doing this later in the year.
Instalation requires an Euroswitch, like Jacob said.
There's also a harness available online, I'll have to search for my old thread to find it for you.
I'm still not positive whether I'll cut the existing grill or get the one with foglight surrounds. Depends on the shape of the fog light I settle on. It will definitely be an aftermarket brand, as I've heard bleak reports of the OEM fog lights' functionality. I happen to need them for driving IN fog. Not just showing off. Not so easy to find.... but once on they'll be sweet.

I added fog lights to my '05 with my dad's help. I bought a standard beetle headlight switch with fog lights on ebay, not the the Euro switch (didn't want one, nor did I have the extra $$$ for it).

I intend to add fogs to my nb. I added aftermarket driving lights to my 96 Jetta. The hardest part is mounting 'em. Wiring harness, relay, fuse, & mounting brackets are in the kits.

I've been brushing up on some links that I found on the "interweb":

Glad I found this thread. The 98 I just bought is the low end model without factory fogs. I think I'll look for the lower valance with OE fogs already mounted and use the switch like 05yellowbeetle.

Bought all the bits separately. Doing stock fogs in the stock fog style valance. All I have left to order is the harness. Thanks for that link

Default ECS Tuning harness #416 won't work for the NB

The last piece of the puzzle in getting OE fogs installed on my NB was the harness. When it arrived it became apparant that you still need a/the harness from the fogs to this "intermediate" harness. This one has a relay and a plug for the light switch end but only one connector that goes out to the lights

If you could post the pics and part #s of these 2 harnesses, you'd officially rock

I'd be glad to post a pic of the harness from ECS if that is something you'd like. I'm not going to track down the wiring/harness that goes from the fogs to the ECS harness. Instead I'm going to wire the left and right fogs to the respective side marker lights as a previous poster has done. I'm sooooo ready to change the look of my basic "non fog" 98 front end

Default Update, 98 NB now with OE fogs

As I mentioned in a previous post I aquired all the grille/valance/fog pieces separately. Ordered the ECS Tuning harness and found there is still a harness that must go from the fogs to the ECS harness. I decided to simply wire them into the parking lights and get the install over with. Bear in mind, my car previously had the non fog grille/valance. I'm done with the wiring and about to install the new valance. As I'm banging around what falls from somewhere above the valance area? Yup, you guessed it, both factory foglight wires/connectors. It seems my car either had the wiring inplace or at somepoint in time the OE fog grille was swapped out. Car had a clean Carfax so there was never any major front end trauma. Anyway, my fogs are in and work like a charm.

Kind of related;

If I want to get rid of my fogs, do I have to buy a non-fog Light Switch?

Is there any way I can safely unplug them or is it not possible?

I don't see any reason to buy a different switch. You should be able to just unplug the wiring from the backs of the fogs.
