Eh, the flowers don't matter; I take them out when I drive it anyway!

I stand corrected. Whatever. It's a great-looking car.

ROFLMAO.....

that is awesome..... it will be ruined with big wheels on it. just have to throw that out there. Chrome or polished alloys, or some red steelies with some caps and white walls.

other than that, what paint did your painter use? I also hope you didn't pay too much, because over time it will fade (especially if parked outside and aloud to let lots of water get at it).

I dig it big time though, one last thing.... joey mod those headlights and spray em with some matching satin black, it'll set the front end of the car off.

Don't worry, I know. We (that is, my girlfriend and I) actually intend for it to be temporary, and will get it repainted again in a year or so. The car had to be painted anyway because it had bodywork done, so we figured we'd just get a cheap paint job now and a high-quality one later to save money (in the short term). We'll come out about even on costs (in the long term) if we wait 'till our painter is running a sale, and in the meantime we have a unique-looking car.

By the way, I do plan to try to wax the thing (once the paint cures in a month); that should protect it from fading some too. And yes, I also know that I need to be careful to make sure the wax doesn't make it look weird -- test in an inconspicuous area and all that...

what brand is the paint?

I wouldn't wax it, most semi-gloss paints (especially black) show scratches EASILY. Compared to the same brand of paint shot with the same equipment and prep (probably less prep actually) in a gloss. Satin black just doesn't hold up well to much of anything. Mine has been done for 3 + years now, redone once, the rabbit is a gloss color of the same brand of paint and application. The gloss has held up and it much more manageable than the satin.

Might turn out interesting though with the wax, I look forward to seeing it, but the properties of the wax conflict with what the satin paint is. One last thing, painting over the paint job may be tough, depending on brand and application and what you are looking for from your next paint job..... certain satin paints are better off stripped than being painted over.

This all comes from my own knowledge of painting my own cars and other automotive parts.

I like the way the car looks in the rain even better than I like it dry!

I just spent half a day waxing mine. Now I think maybe I should have wet sanded it.

Well, this is still brand-new paint. In fact, it's been almost exactly a month -- it's nearly due to be waxed for the first time!

That is really cool. Black cars are beautiful when they are clean and scratch free. Once a black car gets chipped and scratched it really shows its age. I would do the exact same thing if I had a black car that needed a repaint.

maybe once my car is painted something other than satin I can convince the wife to paint her ish satin black.

anyways, always nice to come across someone in a parking lot that doesn't think it's primer. I have gone tired of the 3 + years hearing my car is in primer..... even though every damn jam has been paint matched satin black. BAH!

Ohhh yeah and satin black ALWAYS looks good wet. I'm still cool on the waxing though, can't do it to a non gloss paint, just not in my blood.

So far, nobody that I know of has mistaken it for primer -- which isn't surprising, since it really doesn't look like primer in person.

As for waxing, I'm hoping it won't change the finish, just protect it. I'm thinking of trying a liquid wax (either the stuff they have at the DIY car wash, or something like Zymol). I don't mind if the wax makes it a little glossier (or a little less glossy); I just don't want it to get white and chalky like wax on trim.

The upper door frames (the part around the windows) on my Hyundai Accent are also painted non-glossy black, and I waxed them the other day with liquid Turtle Wax and they came out fine, so I think it'll be okay.

By the way, I wasn't ignoring your previous post, I just hadn't gotten around to calling up the body shop and asking what kind of paint it was until now.

The paint in question is Sherwin Williams urethane enamel (plus flattener).

nice you'll probably get more life outta that paint, lil higher quality and not mixed in mass amounts like the rusto I use.

Anyways, if you give it enough time people will think its primer. Might also be because people notice my car being dumped and various other aspects that lead them to assume it's a "beater" or "project" when it's a vision that is evolving. Could also be living in CA where mutha f***as roll rattle can primer like it's the thing to do.

That could very well be it. Around here the only primer-looking cars around are ones where it's actually primer -- you can tell because it's accompanied by mismatched panels, etc.
