Default Deteriorating Hood Emblem

My original hood and trunk emblems are peeling and look pretty bad...its really a shame since the rest of the car is perfect. I plan on getting them replaced at the dealer. But I was wondering if they have a new version they use that wont peel and such. Has anyone else had this problem? Are there higher quality hood emblems out there?

I bought mine on eBay for around $20. Unless I'm wrong, there doesn't appear to be anything that could peel on this emblem.
Famous last words...

Note: It looks gold on the photo, but it isn't. It's reflecting my carport ceiling.

The 3D emblems last much better. Mine was 7 years old before it started peeling, and then I just shaved the hood.

Did you put it on yourself? If so, how? I am afraid I will scratch my paint trying to get it off.

I followed others advice, like using dental floss and heating it with a hair dryer, etc., but in the end I had to basically pry it off from the bottom with a taped, flat screwdriver. I figured if there was any scratching, the bottom would be the least likely place for it to be seen. It was really on tight!

I managed to get it off with no damage, plus my new emblem has a bit of a rubber border around it too, which covers the perimemter a little. I'm very pleased with it.

I would like to get a new front and rear for Daisy. The dealer already replaced the front for free and the back is peeling really bad now.

Ok great! I will probably plan on doing it myself since its so expensive for a dealer to do it. Thanks for your help!
I can't believe they are peeling though! I mean its only an 05 and the car had always been garaged with the previous owners. Weird...

The chrome is not one solid piece, but rather sort of a thick metal sticker molded over a plastic core. It definitely won't peel, but it could chip/tear if something hit it.

Oh they peel. Enough chips = water getting under the chrome = peeling.

I'm guessing these are the newer, non-3D emblems that are peeling? Be warned that the earlier emblems are not immune to issues. Mine are bubbling up.

I have the non-3D emblems. They SUCK! The rear as peeled completely so you can hardly see the VW symbol. And the front is following close in it's footsteps. Thinking about temporarily using a sharpie or something and coloring in the black until I can afford to get new emblems. I've been told the '06 plus emblems will fit on the cars with the non-3D emblem. That's what I plan to switch to!

I'll be switching mine over this weekend from the non-3D to the 3-D now that I have both in hand. But what I noticed with mine when they were "peeling" was that there was a clear sticker film over top of the actual emblem - and that was the only thing peeling. Once I tore that off the emblem at least looked cleaner for the interim.

Mine are awful. At first I thought they didn't peel the protective film from it, when I realized they were just messed up. I ordered 3D hood and trunk emblems for 60.00 on Ebay. When I called the dealer, they wanted 70 for the front and 120 for the back!

Having the same problems with Gus' front emblem. The back is perfect but the front one looks a little rough. I guess it's from highway travel.

I like the 3-D emblems much better and will probably be upgrading to them in the future. I think VW realized that the non 3-D wasn't such a good idea as they went back to the 3-D ones in '06.

good for you, ours has the original 3-d emblems and the chrome is peeling off and is very sharp, so be wary of it.

What years have the non-3d emblems? Obviously 2005 does since that is what I have.

I know '04 and '05 have them. I think '03s might as well but I'm not 100% sure about the '03s.
