Exclamation Rocker damage: .org paint-body compendium (10-18-2009)

Hi Everyone: Hope you are all doing well

My best friend's Turbo S just got injured yesterday at a garage: the rocker panels were crushed/dented by hoist arms due to incompetence.

What are his options now? Where did the rest of you go to get this fixed (dealer bodyshop/other)?

Is the general consensus to have the work done only at a VW bodyshop: Or is it a straightforward surgery that any decent bodyshop could take care of without doing more damage?

I've already gone through every post in the paint-body section but only found partial information per thread: So I thought I'd take the time to put a collective chronological post together on all the other threads as well for anyone in need of help as this seems to be a common ailment: One of mine is damaged too

The rocker panel is part of the unibody, and thus needs to be cut and welded. My girlfriend absolutely creamed hers on a curb about a year ago -- it was crushed all the way up against the frame rail. I took it to an inexpensive but decent independent body shop I'd used before. It seems fine...

thanks for the compendium, DT.

i'll be digging into this one, as my darling daughter, currently driving Iki (alternatively, her husband) crushed the hell out of the right rocker panel on a curb in the past day or two...

whilst helping move the two of them into their new house today, i noticed the damage.

I showed it to my SIL, who said, "yeah, i think i know when that happened...Ali said she hit a curb in Yorktown the other day...and i hit the SAME curb later." WTH.

all i could do to resist the urge to chicken-choke the both of them...just sayin'. i was just a little torqued.
