Default Operation: Rim Paint

Posted this because it may help someone out. Someone else out there might a budget baller like me.

Operation rim paint:
P.I.T.A. level = 10(because the 2 tone taping)

Worth it? yes
cheap? yes

Rustoleum paint from walmart - not my first choice for paint but you get %33 more free!!!lol

sanded wheels down to really just get the clear off them

i used 180 grit.

make sure you get every surface to feel slightly rough.

2 coats of primer

(primered on left obviously)

3 light coats of paint

5 mins apart between coats

peel away tape and viola

proceed to clear coat

I am by no means a paint expert but this is the procedure that i used. once the wheels go on i will provide an update of how they weather the abuse i will daily put them through

its not my fault if you ef your wheels.

My car whole car's thread and timeline can be found here

thanx for tuning in
ray

Looks like a good job. Painting wheels yourself is easy and it can look really professional if you have any experience spraybombing stuff.

i would try masking off the whole wheel, and them spray painting them, or if your real confident with your skills, take some black model paint and try brushing it.

Just paint them by hand with a really fine, soft artists brush. You won't be able to see brush strokes unless you're 3 inches from them.

You actually did the painting on your wood floors? How did you get away with that? The rims look great!

Awesome! I'm guessing these were aluminum? I went to Levine's Auto stuff shop and the guy told me to get self etching primer AND regular primer for doing aluminum wheels. The self etching to adhere to the metal, and the primer to adhere to the self etching primer and the paint to adhere to that. Something along those lines :P
I can't wait to get my wheels, these painted wheel covers are cool...but getting old in more than one way =\
