Default Emblem painting :(

I want to paint the VW part, not the backing, so there will be contrast between the two blacks; the VW a glossier deeper black on top of the generic trim black of the backing.

I tried to pull the chrome section off of my first attempt, which i did by masking off the inside, it didn't turn out so great =\ Well, basically it just snapped and broke in me trying to remove it. Seemed like it was held on by some serious glue. Do i just need a heat gun and i'm golden?

How do i get this thing off so i can give it a proper paint job!?
While i'm at it, how do you get the rear emblem off?? If getting the chrome parts off of the backing is the same story I'll finally get them both done!

Not saying I don't want the shaved look...but i gotta get my paper up if i want that to fly for more than a week or so :P

Rear emblem removal; I'm assuming you have the swivel type, based on the mirrors on your car.

Front and Rear Euro Emblem Install - How-To

I'm not sure you can remove JUST the chrome part on either emblem without tearing it up, as you found. Could you not just mask off the background areas?

thanks for the link!

masking are hard, and i'm pretty good with a razor blade
With it off completely I could plasti-dip it and it would be thoroughly painted AND be durable

While this seems relatively easy, am I to assume that the rear emblem removes just as the front would on an NBC? I'm looking at the Euro emblems thinking that they would look way better with my Laser Blue than the American emblems.

Thanks for the neat install guide with pictures. You guys could teach my hot rodding buddies a thing or two on posting pics and describing each step.
