I say hit it with a hammer and if it doesn't spider out i think yer good.

But seriously....it's winter kiddo. Temperature variations are stressful on windows. Get it looked at asap, especially if you can feel the chip from the inside. What about water leakage?

It could get worse. And it's big enough that you would most likely need to get the windsheild replace, rather than repaired. A new whindshield will be atleast $400-$500 probably not including install.

do you have state farm insurance? if you do, they allow a new windsheild once a year no charge. no deductable-nothing. i dont know about other insurance companies though.

good luck!

If it's on the inside, it shouldn't cause leakage since windshields are laminated. But, I would look into if your insurance would cover it. Florida does cover that sort of thing, thankfully...

It's always nice when insurance covers it with no deductable. A girl I work with had to get a new window for her Jetta, insurance wouldn't cover it because it was under her deductable, the window was about $900 or so.

Just find out, pay to fix it yourself, save the receipts, and file with your insurance company to be reimbursed.

Alternatively, they may have a specific vender they deal with if they do in fact cover it. Check with the ins directly.

well the crack is major big now. its spreading like crazy. i talked to state farm and they told me if the crack is smaller than 6 inches then they will fix it for free. if its bigger then i have to pay to get it replaced. is this right or is there somethign else i need to know or say to get them to replace the whole windshield.

I don't understand that logic. Why should size matter? If it's cracked, it's cracked. Either way it has to be replaced. Freakin insurance companies are crooks.

Why would the size of the crack matter? If it's cracked and needs to be replaced it needs to be replaced! I'd talk to them again. That's crazy!

What they are saying is, the windshield crack is too large and is not of the type of crack that can be repaired, which many insurance companies will waive the deductible, as the repair costs about $40. The cracking of your windshield requires you to replace your windshield. Assuming you have comprehensive coverage on your car, you have a deductible to pay. Because of your young age, that deductible is commonly $500 -$1000 in order to keep the insurance premiums as low as possible. If you want a low or no deductible on your car, then you will also have to pay the increased cost of that. Typically, small starred type cracks are the only kinds of cracks that are repairable...and it must be out of the line of vision.
I went to www.89glass.com and got a quote for $276 for replacement.

Insurance companies aren't crooks.....you have to understand what you are paying for. Most car policies do have a deductible for glass breakage, though some do not. That is the choice by the buyer of the insurance policy, not the insurance company, which affects the cost of car insurance. I like to keep my ins premiums low, so I carry a $500 deductible on my cars. A broken windshield will cost less than $500, so I know it will be out of my pocket. But over the long run, I save more money by doing this.
