I have the same kind and seem to have a hard time removing everything, but I will give it another shot this weekend.. I'm scared that I might tear things up though

There are some subtle differences between model years, a storage compartment above the mirror and rear seat lighting just to name two. I will be updating this DIY in the upcoming weeks as my sons NB needs a new headliner and he has these options.

The plastic will be resistant, just be careful when pulling on it so you do not break the tabs off. My sons NB has this problem with the trim over the hatch window.

Nice! I considered suede, just could not find one in my color. Did you do foam/suede or just suede?

No foam ... but you have to be careful not to use too much glue and it is not very stretchy so getting into the grooves is a bit difficult.

Talking D2Beetle saves my day

I want you to know - I just extracted my headliner from a 1998 New Beetle, following your instructions - worked like a charm. I can't thank you enough for taking the time you did to lay this out so precisely.

Saving me bucks.

Thanks for the effort.

Looking to fix the headliner in my 2003 Beetle as it is drooping. The headliner material looks great...is it possible to reuse the headliner material?
Thanks
Josh

Not that I am aware of. IMHO if they did the wiring and lighting would not look very good.

Yes, it is possible; however you can get pre-fab (foam included) headliner for $20 and you only have to glue it once instead of twice.

PROJECT COST (moderate estimate): 1 Cloth/Fabric (1.5 sq yards) $20.00, 1-16 oz Spray Can Adhesive $11.00.

Oh man, I'd love to do this! But I'm slightly nervous, I don't wanna tear up my baby.

Do you think this type of fabric would work?
