Default HELP! Turn Signal Repeaters BROKE!

I recently bought a set of Smoke colored Turn Signal Repeaters to replace the clear ones....

Smoke Side Marker Repeaters VW Jetta Golf Beetle Passa : eBay Motors (item 250602132252 end time Jun-20-10 11:48:10 PDT)

Well, as suggested in the Haynes repair manual, to remove the marker, you have to pry the light off by pushing it slightly in since it has a release clip... well I taped the area off and did just that just to have the clear lens fall off...seems broken and I can't figure out for the life of me how to remove the rest of the piece. The marker still is plugged in and works but the lens part is cleanly broken off....and to make matters worse, the new smoke versions don't look like they will fit the hole....damn...now what?!?!?! ANYONE please help me!!!! Thanks in advance.

I'd get a set of fine-nosed needle-nosed pliers and gently get a grip on the back-half of the piece that is just sort of rattling around in there now, and you should be able to just pull it out.

Hey I've tried to pull it out and it's no use...the nose needle pliers just erroded the white housing of the repeater leftover...

I SERIOUSLY NEED HELP!!!

If anyone out there has had to replace or remove these repeaters, can you please post your experience? Thanks in advance.

I don't know if you got help with this, I do believe the only way to get it out is to take off the dash panel cover, remove the plate below, take out the cabin filter, you should now be able to take out the screws that hold that in place there on the fender. I am currently researching the same. almost made the same mistake today. looked at my bentley first found out that is the way to do it, or almost the way lol close enough.
