Default Custom Paint??

Hi! I heard a rumor that if you custom paint ANY car, not just the beetle, that it is harder to resell. Is this true?

Pfffft. No

<-- would be more likely to buy a custom painted Beetle than one of the standard off-the-line just-like-every-other-car colors

Especially if it were in like a deep metallic purple or candy coat red

its not the custom paint that is hard to sell its the custom designs and graphics that some say u would need to find someone with the same taste as u in order to sell it but i always said if the car is hot enough anyone will buy it

What I notice about new paint jobs is the miss-match of interior parts, doors, under hood, trunk and other body painted areas to the new color. The only way that I would change color would be to remove all hardware (body and interior) and repaint all areas that show the original color.

Yeah - it's harder to sell because someone has to have the same taste as you....if you keep it stock then you can trade it is much easier because it will appeal to the masses.

You have to find the right person to purchase a car that already has custom paint...most dealerships would rather not have to find just the right guy - so they will lowball you if you are trying to trade it in because of this fact.

You could have made this thread a Poll.

Painting your NB the color you like is always a winner, especially if you intend to keep it; however I agree with the comments made by, V_BFW_W, RachelBug and marvins_dad.

Buying repainted NB's are never on my list (regardless of color) unless they are done in the manner Duffy noted. Considering the amount of dollars spent to repaint one, I would do it right from the get go.

There is a NB running around Raleigh with that color. It was for sale a few years ago at a used car lot about 2 blocks from my house. I now see it around NC State all the time, driven by a guy surprisingly (I only say that because most VWs around the campus are driven by girls). I think its an '02 or '03 if I remember correctly from when it was being sold. Its a really neat color. I eye it up everytime I see it

I like custom painted cars in general! But then again, that's me. Most people prefer stock. I plan on custom painting mine...but then again, I plan on keeping mine for just about ever! So, that's why I would do it. I don't plan on going "over-the-top" with it....just something classy yet stylish....might appeal to more than just a few...atleast I hope.

I voted yes on the poll. My only comment is that I probably wouldn't have had my car painted if I thought I would ever sell it. I can understand why a custom paint job may cause a problem in finding a buyer.
