$3000??? Too bad you don't live close by, I would shoot it black for the price of the paint!
As for the rolling backwards, you are ALWAYS gonna roll back some on a hill..unless you hold up the E-brake while you are letting out the clutch. It all comes with practice though. One thing I see people do that is a HUGE NO-NO is "ride the clutch". I see people all the time who have the clutch half way depressed and pressing on the gas to hold themselves still on a hill instead of using the brake so they don't roll back when it's time to go. That will wear out a clutch faster than anything. Just go find yourself a hill to practice on, preferrably one that doesn't have alot of traffic and is not too steep.
About the pink; I've never seen a black bug with a different colored roof so I couldn't tell ya what I would think but really it only matters if you are going to like it. Good thing about vinyl is it comes off if you don't like it. BTW if you use vinyl, your gonna have to sand off the flaking paint first if you want it to turn out good.

Pull up on the emergency brake and keep your thumb on the button, as you let out the clutch pedal, release the e-brake when the clutch starts to grab and off you go....the timing takes a little practice, but you won't roll backwards

How off would black vinyl be with black paint?
I love how this roof turned out.

Rolling back is normal. Just, don't go too far. I learned how to drive a manual transmission in my new beetle. I always thought I was rolling back really far but, it was just maybe 3 inches on a steep hill. It comes with practice. Just make sure you let that clutch out in a good spot. Toasted mine a few times while sitting on an incline. But, It happens.

I never tried the handbrake thing. I was too nervous about it. Might be worth a shot. Or, go in an empty parking lot with an incline and learn there.

I think the pink would look good. So would black. Perhaps put pink accents inside???

Accelerating fast would using stop most of the rolling back, takes awhile till you can it though. And besides unless you go REALLY slow off the clutch and onto the gas, you wont go very far back. Only problem would be if someone is an inch from your bumper and then that would be their fault.

My beetle is my first car and its peeling everywhere haha. Wish it was only on the roof.

To prevent the car rolling back, you need a little bit of 'bite' on the clutch and a little bit of 'gas' set so that the car is feeling like it's wanting to go forward. A little like a dog pulling on a lead ready to go out for a walk. Then let of the handbrake (I think you guys call it an E brake?) and off you go forwards.

Rolling back can be dangerous - especially if you're in a built up area where people might have walked behind you to cross the road - don't want to squish them! I don't know how it works with insurance over the pond, but if you rolled back into another car, it would be your fault no matter how close they parked.

I was sued in Germany for rolling back into a duck. Cost me $2100 DM in 1989.

Welcome to the Org.

Pink top, black bottom? If your a girl or gay, perfect!

If your not, WTF!

As to the rolling back, practice, practice, practice. For now use the hand brake and release slowly while at the same time, letting out slowly on the clutch and pressing down lightly on the gas. You will feel it working right! It's all about timing. Eventually you will be able to loose the handbrake thing and not roll back even an inch on a 6% grade. Just takes time.
