Default Question about painting and wrapping

I am currently looking for a TDI bug, so my color choices aren't the greatest. I've seen a lot of silver, yellow and red. My absolute favorite color is purple, the closest VW ever got to that was vortex blue, but I think there are only two TDI in vortex.

My question is this, if I bought the silver bug, how much would it be to put a coat of purple over it. I don't want to completely repaint the bug because I know that's super expensive and will take away from the value. I was thinking a coat of purple might make it look glittery purple. If that's a bad idea, how about putting a wrap on it? I'm assuming the wrap is cheaper than a proper paint job, and also easier to maintain.

If these are both bad ideas, than I'm going for the yellow bug (which is a cheerful color, just not my favorite color). I don't want to get the red bug because my mom already has red and it would just be a little weird.

I don't know how much wraps are, but if you plan on keeping the car outside, and driving in all 4 seasons, a full wrap won't last you nearly as long as paint.

Well a "wrap" isn't actually easier to maintain, they can peel at the edges and get dirt under them, and then the car looks terrible.

A thought.. why not find a car you are happy with and just have them drop one of the TDI engines in from a wrecked or donor Beetle?

VW did make a color you might like, it's called Chromaflair. It came in several shades / hues...

Check it out...

But then agan... Yellow isn't so bad..

That's what I drive!

It's called Double Yellow...

Evan, that is a mighty sharp looking yellow bug! Lots of attention to detail on it. I'm not a yellow hater, my room is buttercup yellow with orchid purple details. Since painting my room from lavender to yellow, it's gotten a lot cheerier.

The chromaflare looks pretty snazzy but I haven't seen any of those around. There's a girl in my town who has a vortex blue bug for sale and that's a color I love, but not an engine I love. How much is it to put in a turbo diesel engine?

That's kind of a grey area on price, you'd have to swap out the ECU, wiring harness, engine, (at the very least) so the price would first depend on whether you could get those for a decent price. Then you'd have to pay someone to install them in the car.

I know you can get a used TDI engine that should fit with only 54K miles on it, for about $2500 on eBay. Then probably looking around at least $1000 for all the labor / parts etc. (ballpark figure). In the long run it'd probably be cheaper to just find a nice TDI and paint it the color you want it, take it somewhere good and have them do a full paint job.

You could have a great paint job for around 1-2K depending on where you go and have it YOUR color
