I have never seen a New Beetle, of any year, with any rust?

Well, I also had rust. I bought my '99 from a couple from Montana about 1 1/2 years ago. Had a few small rust spots around windshield area and roof. Probably spent too much time in the snow with no cover. I have been repairing all the little rust spots and rock chips myself and it's turning out great! Next fix is the lower front bumper. Too many rock chips! I can't do body work, but these little chips and rust sports I have learned to repair. I get my paint custom mixed in a spray can and it's great!

Yep both my 2000 and 2001 have had this problem with the roof rails. I had the 2000 repainted completely and I had a shop spot fix a few spots on my 2001 for under $200.

Maintaining the body is just as important as keeping up with mechanical maintenance IMO. I've seen plenty of VW's in perfect working order go an early grave because of rust.

I know of one owner who did black over yellow and it is amazing. I vote yes to the black top.

I had a small spot of rust on my roof near the edge that appeared probably 4 or 5 years ago. Had some touchup paint so we peeled back the bubbling paint, sanded the spot, hit it with rust neutralizer, and then painted it. You only can tell if you look really hard.

I guess I'm lucky as far as rust goes, there isn't much that will rust in the desert!

Also "Evanrude" has a pic thread with a DYCC NB and he photoshopped a black roof onto it...Looks great. Check it out.

My vote is black roof too. I have a spot of rust on my car too. It is in on the flat part of the door frame of the driver's door all the way towards the front of the car. I think it had water sitting in there while it sat for a year. Good thing no body can see it.
