Default Custom Paint Advice Please((:

So I am finally getting my buggy painted she is currently black and i plan to repaint her and keep her mostly black. I would like to incorporate some hot pink into the exterior to match my interior but i am having a hard time deciding what to do with my pink. I found some ideas but any that you have are welcome. Also my beetle is a 2000 and it is not a convertible and does not have a sun roof. I want the main color black. I was thinking if i did the off centered stripes across the top then i could also do the side stripe.

You could just do the stripes with vinyl so you could test to see if it is something you would like. That's what I would do...this is coming from someone that has gone the custom paint route.

I know some folks in my club that would change up their stripes every once and a while and it was cool since they did it in vinyl they could change up the look of their car every 6 months or so without it costing too much.

Custom paint is basically a forever thing. In my opinion it is for patterns like flames, scallops or really crazy things that you can't do with vinyl. I even did interior vinyl that is double layered because I didn't want to go through the trouble of custom paint on the inside.

I looked into doing viynl( the stick on ones they sell on ebay??) and it turned out that just painting it on would be cheaper because i only have to pay for the actual paint and the painter is doing it for free and the stick ons were like $70 idk if those are the same as vinyl though ( as you can probably tell my dad has helped me alot with my customizations lol).

Thumbs up

Black with pink racing stripes would be cool! Umm as for the custom paint, it can get pricey depending on the shade of pink you go with, be it a Kandy or a sparkle. One of our old Orger's had a silver NB with pink racing stripes.

Can't wait to see what you come up with.

Actual paint = Basecoat color, hardner, clearcoat, different hardner, all for less than $70? I don't think so. Keep in mind the new clearcoat needs to encompass the entire panel being painted. And then the refreshed clearcoat panels matching the unpainted panels... And black to boot...

Even if you use a clearcoat blender so you just have to clearcoat the stripes, or a single stage paint so you don't need to clearcoat, I think your going to find your material costs will significantly exceed the cost of vinyl.

Edit: Now I remember...

But i fixed it all and made her pink!

I also got her flower taillight covers and i plan to repaint her soon because she has a very faded roof and the hood is a little but rusty. Can't wait till she is perfect(:
So, are the stripes just being added to a new black paint job, and the only added cost you have is for the pink paint? Now it may make a little more sense! A pint (if you keep the stripe size or area small) of pink paink should run just about what the vinyl stripes your looking at do, however. Paint isn't cheap. But as marvins_dad mentioned, it is permanent, no changing your mind, or changing the design, without considerable cost!

Personally, I like the side color two tone as opposed to the stripes -

Along with a set of 17" Take5 wheels with the inserts redone in pink to match... Killer!

I've said it before and I will say it again...I would never stick any pic on the net that I minded people having and using. I think stripes on top but not on the sides, too many stripes. I say if you do stripes on top go with rockers to match. But personally, I like the 2 tone like the final edition beetles. Black on top, with pink sides. If you do a candy pink on the side, I think it would look sweet. Maybe even a pink top to match?

My 2 cents=The parts you want pink, start with an arctic white basecoat and put this Make your own custom paint candies with our Pink pearl pigment powder! pink candy over the top of it. The white will only brighten the pink. It would look like a sparkly pink jolly rancher in color in the sunlight. And for $10 per bag, you can't go wrong. I've used this product before and recommend it all the time.

To give you a better idea of the sides done....this was a beetle from Vegas I saw awhile ago and forgot to post on here. She even has a heart exhaust pipe. Not sure what's up with the hearts all over the back though...

ALSO! Adding sparkle is ALWAYS a plus! Evilina's is a hot pink base coat with the pink, blue and purple sparklescent.

That pink would look better if it extended all the way to the fenders.
