Default Water in my beetle, HELP

My bug is leaking, wet floor in front passenger floor and on the rear driver side head liner in back corner. I have seen some information here somewhere about cloged sun roof drains etc. Can someone tell me more about these problems. Are they common problems. I just got the bug from my sister. She parked it under a tree and the vent area in front of the windshield was totally clogged with leaves etc. I cleaned it out and thought I solved the problem. I probable need to take the carpet out and really find the cause. Any help greatly appreciated.

Try this: Winterize - Sun Roof Drains

Also check your radio antenna base; make sure it is not loose. I had a leak there once. A good cleaning and some black silicone fixed me right up.

I believe I saw a TSB months ago about the sunroof thing. It does sound like there may be a couple of drains plugged. I'm not sure removing the carpet is going to reveal the source, but you may need to do that anyway to dry everything out. Once opened up, a fan blowing over the affected area(s) for a few hours is the best way to dry things out.

There is a recall for some of the MKIV's, which includes some NB's. I had the same thing happen where water was pouring in my back window and it smelled like trash inside and I couldn't get rid of it for days. I didn't realize at the time that it had rained when the smell came about until it rained again and I could see water pouring down the back passenger window. The floorboard was soaked...it was a mess. The dealership originally told me my drains couldn't be fixed and that it was the whole sunroof assy....$1200. NO way...we cleaned them out and it was fine for a year. It started again and I found out that there was a recall for the drains themselves. It has to do with the sunroof tray and the way they designed the drains. Call your dealership and have them do the recall modifications...there might also be a recall on your coilpack depending on the year of your vehicle. I hope you get something figured out!!!!

After reading your replys I opened my sunroof and slid back the roof. Water was pooled up in the front driver side corner. Looks like I have at least one cloged drain. Ill try the fix when I get home. Thanks to all

That must have been what I saw! And ditto, if it's a recall situation get it to the Dealer (they love recall work!). Should be very co-operative.

Your are correct. Went to the dealer today to get a dipstick tube and had them run my vin and yes I have a recall to clean the sunroof drains and to "repair and modify" the drains. I dont know what they can do. I told them that I had cleaned them 4 days ago and they said to bring it in anyway. Guess I will, what the heck. Maybe they can fix it so it will not happen again but I think it is something you just have to maintain. Thanks again for the help.

Thumbs up Excellent!

The TSB re the recall, as I remember, did have something to do with modifying and included some new or redesigned part or parts number(s). Get 'er done! Come back and give us the details. Maybe ask for a copy of the TSB or Recall notice and put it up. Others will be interested.

Always glad to help!

M.

I called to make an appointment fot the sunroof drains. The service mgr said all they do is clean the front drains to make sure they are not clogged and maybe trim the end of the tube if they appear closed. They do not do anything to the rear drains. Im not going to have them do anything as I have cleaned and inspected my drains myself. Dealer is one hour away so does not make sense. My luck they would get in there and cause some damage or other problem. Seems to be fixed now so ill leave it alone.
