Question Badge emblem refurbished

Hello,

I actually have two question. About the VW badges on the hood and trunk lid.

1. How do the badges mount, and how do you remove them ???

Mine and peeling, like some kind of plastic cover and there faded, I would like to touch the paint up and then can I spray them with a clear, to protect them.

2. Would a clear over the clean and repainted badge work ? Or is there something special I should use.

Thanks

They have a clear plastic covering or film on them; I've never seen anyone refinish them but you could be the first to try! They are held on my a foam/adhesive pad. Removal seems to be the strategic and careful use of a hair dryer to heat up the adhesive and string/dental floss or a plastic non marring tool like a putty knife or interior removal tool to get it started. Most people just replace them with new ones; the earlier and later badges seem to last longer.
I've always wondered if replacing the USA style ones with the blue/white ones would last longer... maybe someone here knows the anwer; I've always been temped to try that. I live in the desert and mine were replaced under warranty and mine are peeling again. .. good luck!

Good links to "how to's" and which badges, years they come on: http://www.google.com/search?client=...UTF-8&oe=UTF-8

I am constantly changing the color of mine

I use model kit paint. Or nail varnish. With a clear nail varnish to seal it

Orange and chrome, chrome was already there as was black and chrome before

Orange and Purple

Gold and Black

I even tried covering the front badge in leather once

There's no need to take off the badge when painting. Just scrub with a wet and dry sand paper or paint directly to the badge. Takes about half an hour per badge and just think of the different colours you can do

The best part being, people ask where you bought that badge from

Thumbs up

Hi Billymade, thanks for the info and the link.

Blugg, thanks for the info, your badges look amazing. What grit sandpaper did you use to sand your badges, and the sand paper didn't damage the chrome.

Blue one on my 2002 UK bug is worse than the black one on my 2000 US bug that has lived in the desert for 10 years!

Was just a fine grade paper. With the Orange ones, i didn't sand paper, i just applied the nail varnish straight to it after i wiped with a damp cloth to remove any dirt

I'm not a painter, i can't even draw It's child's play to do
