Thumbs up Painted Dash Done!

Got my dash done! I thought it came out great! Finished it on Friday then Powder was in the shop the next week for a bad top. So the dealership has enjoyed him more then me.

Wow, that looks great. I have my grab bar ends and speedometer surround painted and I'm debating whether or not I should get the entire center piece painted or not. How much did that cost?

I'm still waiting to paint mine. I'll have to get it done when I get back to the US.

If you have patience, some painting skill, and time, you can do it yourself for very little money. I am getting ready to do mine and the only hard part as far as I can tell, is stripping the rubbery coating junk from the panels. I have done my grab bar ends, vase holder and counterpart, shifter surround (automatic) and sunroof control surround. Use lots of clear coat!!!!!

yeah, i plan on doing it myself - i was just curious as to how much it costs for a shop to do it.

for the black rubbery stuff, "Greased Lightnin'" or any other degreasing chemical is supposed to take it right off. (i haven't tried it myself yet, but many others have and say it works like a dream.)

as far as lots of clear coat - yes, use many layers, but for best results also use a kind of hard shell polish. all the surfaces i'm painting next are high-hand-traffic areas (like the door panels), and could use the extra protection.

It cost me $200.00 at the paint shop. I took it apart for them and they painted it. It has a perfect finish. I was so pleased at how it come out. Hubby paid for it for my birthday so it didn't really cost me anything. ;o) I am pulling the trim piecs off my door grabs and having them painted too. I wanted to bring more of the blue into the car. I am seriously considering having lite blue inserts sewn into my seats.

Worth every penny in my estimation! I would pay that amount just to not have to scrape of the rubber junk...

We've had a good chat on removing the rubbery stuff in a previous forum. I just cant remember which one it is. Instead of me sounding like a broken record, someone (i hope)will link you to it. It sure beats scraping.

I wish there was some way I could re-color my tan seats black. Too much work I guess. Buying new seats will be the best route. Looking foward to the pics.
