Again this was something else I have never attempted.
It actually is tighter than the drivers side door!

Going to hopefully finalize my regulator repair this weekend and will be left with my door handle repair!

Sorry for the late post, the car is back for the holidays,my daughter had the car. I used a wire that I could loop around the upper and lower screws and tighten by twisting.

Default broken new beetle pull handle

I had this same problem with my 2002 beetle so I made some handles. They turned out really great and I make them from time to time and sell them on craigslist or ebay. Here is an ebay link VOLKSWAGEN BEETLE 1999-2005 INTERIOR DOOR PULL HANDLE CUSTOM - DRVR & PASSNGR | eBay. If your not set up on ebay and your interested let me know. Let me know what you think please.

That's actually pretty cool! Could you post a close up pic showing the ends where the bolts are? (You wrote "this is not a perfect repair as you can see in the pictures, but it is way better than no handle at all" in the Ebay ad, but I can't see the imperfections in those pictures).

Default broken new beetle pull handle

Here are some pics of what I did to fix mine. I also sell these on ebay.

I sent a picture of my ride.
...I repiaired the front grill using gutter leaf guard material from home depot and epoxy glue for around $5 total and re-painted it.
...I re-painted the front bumper and fenders because of a bad paint job done by previous owner(repair shop they used did poor paint job)
...I had the door interior panels and headliner replaced by an apholstery shop
...replaced cracked winshield
...new brakes, rotors and tires all the way around
