I bought 02 TDI. New tires, so I couldn't see spending the money on rims yet. I was rotating tires and had the wheel covers off and had a brainstorm. Lets paint those things black...

I did the same thing to mine! I used Plastic Fusion Paint also,and chose a hammered black. I had to strip my wheel covers down to the bare plastic,because the original silver paint was peeling off!
