Lightbulb Interior painting...watch me work

Well gang, it's that time of year again. Time to spruce up before the big event. I bought some Greased Lightning and i've removed my interior door handles and my guage surround.

I'll be photographically documenting my progress as i go. All problems will be shared with the group and you are more than welcome to add suggestions.

I wondered the same thing. Got some in the bathroom. I'll try that after the room is free again.

Has anyone tried turpentine? I know it dissolves rubber...just wonder what it would do to the plastic.

Wow John, I'm also painting my interior today too! I tried GL, didn't seem to do crap. You know what did work really really great? A hand sized sander. It took all that rubber off lickity split, I loved it. No chemicals, no liquids, no rubbing. Just sitting there with the sander.

I did the other door pull, the grab handle plastic parts, and those 2 plastic parts near the speedometer. You know, the ones that everyone has done I'm still doing coats of paint..

Good luck on your stuff! I'm glad someone is finally documenting the process of painting

Way to go! I would have done a thread like this, but didn't think of it (plus I was too frustrated prepping for the paint)! More pics please!

Well, i'm on hold right now. I'd like to give acetone another try, not to offend Ms. CrazyDaisy. Other than that, there has to be something that can cut through it. There has to be something like a paint remover for furniture that's gentle enough to not harm the platic beneath.

I did notice the GL did tend to "soften" the stuff up and i could easily scratch some off, but i probably couldve done it anyway as it was flaking as it was. The GooGone was what i had high hopes for, but it did abolutely nothing at all.

Also, i'm priming my tow hook for another project. Nothing too difficult there as it's more or less bare metal.

I'm sorry to read that, I did the same on the door handles and the only product that worked for me was elbow grease, sand paper and patience. Then I had to wash them (to remove the dust), sand a little more, rewash it. And then paint.

I'll be using standard auto grade paint. I found a color that closely matches plat gray and i've had good results so far so i'm stickin it out.

That's the door handles and the guage surround in the pic.

Looked online. Wonder if this suggestion would work for some, if not all parts??

Acrylic off Vinyl and Resin

"Pine-Sol WILL work, that is what I use! I usually let it soak in a bucket for about 3 days. After that the paint usually comes right off with just tap water. I have used this tactic on vinyl, resin and Aurora kits with success. If you are in a hurry to remove the paint use Easy Lift Off from Polly S (I believe), that will remove paint in a hurry, just brush it on and brush it off!"

Alright, i've been soaking the handles covers in Lestoil since early last night. Check em this morning and so far nothing aside from the horrible smell of Lestoil. However, it doe appear to be not harming the plastic. So i have that going for me, which is nice.
