Unfortunately, short of stripping it and repainting, there's not much you can do...

and i don't know if you'll be able to find the rubber coating anywhere.

ironically, we're all trying to get the rubber junk off the door panels, and you're trying to get it pack on.

I never understood why VW put that crap on the car in the first place. My Miata also had it on the top of the dash and it just turned to goo, you couldn't even touch it without leaving a mark! Doesn't anyone do research and development anymore?!?!

[insert comment about R&D spent on planned breakage and obsolescence here]

LOL! I wouldn't say pack it on!! <--jk. Now I FULLY understand what everyone is trying to strip off. I was under the impression it was the bumpy surface that is on the dash part. So, it's . . . .<insert burlesque music here> stripping time?

eh... that was supposed to be "get it back on".

but ya, start stripping. i wouldnt sand because your panel isnt scratched yet. mine's all scratched up so i'm just taking taking to it with more scratchy stuff.

ask FineExampl for which stripping method he found to be easiest.
