Okay, so I got my "touch up" paint in, because the previous owner had some small issues with curbs etc...
Most of the box is in German (and other languages)... I want to do this, this weekend... any suggestions from others who may have used the touch up paint from VW before. I would rather learn now, then this weekend while doing (because I am NOT posting any screwup pictures... only wonderfully finished beetle ones) Thanks ahead of time for any advice. Here is a pic of what I got: ![]() And here are some pics of what I am working with: ![]() This is from the day I bought it, if you look at the passenger side front bumper area, you can see the work I need to do : ![]() The car also has some scratches on the interior paint in the back seats (I think the previous owner snowboarded, so there are some interesting stains and marks I need to work on) Thanks for any sugestions up front... or if you point me to an old thead to check out too, thats cool ![]() Thanks!!!

Breez:
FIrst of all, sorry about your beautiful NB... I have the exact same colour and while I love looking at it, I must admit scratches and rock chips appear very noticable with this shade of blue ![]() Here is a product you may be interested in: www.touchup123.com To normally use touch up paint for this scrape or even for rock chips, it takes forever (I know this firsthand, the hard way too). It looks like this may be the easier way (with better results) than just using normal touchup paint. Send the pic with the scrape to the guys at this website and see what they think... I'm very curious for myself too as some idiot rubbed my car with theirs and left some little scrapes at the back wheel-well (on the plastic). -Dale |

Dale - that is a pretty interesting product...I'd be curious of the results as well.
![]() I'm afraid that touch-up paint will not do the trick to a scratch that severe...Mainly effective on rock chips, then you still get the globs.

Well - it won't be down to the metal because it is plastic or ureathane.
It is quite possible that it might be the clear coat that is ruffed up and you could clean it up a bit with rubbing compound and get a better look at the actual damage to the paint. |

Wet sand the area you are going to paint with 400 grit wet ordry sand paper until completly smooth wipe back that area and also away from the area with some wax and silicone remover make sure it is clean and dry do light coats until it is covered nicely let it dry for awhile, cover with clear several nice coats allowing to dry between each one I think i did about six clear coats because you should wet sand the clear afterwards with about 1000 grit wet or dry sand paper until smooth and then light rubbing compound and then wax. should look sweet. Do not!!! spray clear,Or paint for that matter onto any area that has not been stripped of wax or silicone, If you never knew what fisheye was, you will if you do. because it will fisheye bad. and its just a waste of paint and time because it will have to be removed again. Good luck its not as hard as it seems just don't rush it a run in that blue will really show up. Hold up your box says touch up pencils??? i think that might mean it is more like fingernail polish which in that case you would be more inclined on telling me how to put that on. Don't follow any of my directions if your paint is like fingernail polish just wipe the area with wax and silocone remover and appy let dry and clear it.

I don't think even I would take that chore on Gilligan.
When they repaired the rear of Marvin because of the scrapes when he was flat bedded back after the accident they used a special system that blended the old paint with the new. I'd be more inclined to try that stuff Dale posted before I take sand paper to my car...I just don't know about what you would do at that line where the old paint and the new paint would meet. When they did my custom work they had to clear the entire side of the car because you can't just stop or feather the clear coat. ![]() Maybe this is sim to what they use... http://paintworldinc.com/productdeta...u=DUP.A-19301S Or a kit like this... http://www.ultimatetouchup.com/ another... http://www.levineautoparts.com/trmeawedblac.html Have we scared you yet Breez? Even though I am an OCD nut, I will not freak out if this doesnt match... exactly. They are not in really obvious spots to the naked eye, and I did get the paint that is suppose to match my car directly from VW... I will keep you posted, if we get to it this weekend.
I love hearing what others think, its very useful!!! Bree |

Bree, get yourself to Target and in the tool aisle for $30 you can get a Black&Decker orbital buffer/polisher. Than go to the auto parts store and get a container of Turtlewax rubbing compound or Maguiars ScratchX. You might be able to smooth some of it out with sandpaper, but hopefully you wont need to.
Everyone should own a buffer. For waxing/polishing purposes alone it's fantastic. Best $30 i've spent in the last month. Too bad you aren't in Jersey. I'd bring over my buffer and show you how. |

I have a buffer somewhere in the garage from my jetta... I think its behind all the leather care products... you should have seen the interior of my jetta, it didn't look like an 8 year old car, it looked brand new. Now what am I going to do with all that leather care stuff?!?!?... I guess toss it and get used to having cloth seats for the first time in my life
argh. Thanks again. I might get to the touch up paint in the next couple weekends and Ill keep you all posted and let you know how it went... if anyone else has any ideas, please feel free to post. Thanks ![]() |

Breez, can I have your leather stuff? Im trying to get a cleaner/detail business going and I ran out of leather stuff when I detailed Lola before I sold her. I was just about to run out and buy some! Are you anywhere near me? Im in Glendale
(I dont know where Sun City is, I have only been here in Phx for 3 mos, but hey- I have this wonderful TDi- if youre just gunna toss it Id looooove to come get it!)Anyways I used this style touchup on our Camaro. It was teal... Ugh I was so careful, did everything right, and still ended up with awful gobbage. I had better luck with spray on areas that werent as noticeable... our grille area was so bad from bottoming out coming from our complex, that I had to physically fill it and paint over that. Turned out pretty sweet. But that fingernail polish stuff is so hard to control, and it makes wierd streaks/splotches like if you were using a clearish sparkly nailpolish and blob a bunch onto your nail... so glad youre a chick so you understand this... ROFL... and all the sparkles make that area look darker? Its kind of like that. Ugly. I still have that exact touchup kit in Snap Orange sitting on my counter for a similar gash, I didnt even want to attempt it, I am sooo OCD about my paint, I figured if I messed it up worse I would regret it. I think Im going to order a bit of that touchup 123 junk for the new TDi. I mean, its white, so anything will look fine, ROFL! But given the options, I think the 123 stuff would be a safer bet with that gash you have. Either way, good luck! |

Im pretty much over by arrowhead mall... you?
I will go look to see if the leather stuff if still in the garage... I know we spring cleaned last week and I cant remember, I will check tomorrow. Bree |

There are areas on the very, very bottom of my fenders where they'd worn through right to the primer from flying rocks coming off the wheels, not visible unless you're looking right at it, which means you're on your knees or stomach. I had a bottle of touchup paint that was kind of getting gooey and worn, so i just slapped that in there and it looked fine, it's not like it is a high-visibility area anyway. But I honestly think that with a bottle of touchup paint you could clean that up very nicely.
Yes, your colour shows scratches, but it also is very good at hiding touchup spots, like mine. ![]() Good luck! SMG |

well, I am busy tackeling projects around the house this weekend... but i'll keep you all up to date. I have decided to use the touch up paint from VW just because even if the color is slightly off, (because the age of my car) its not in a really noticeable place... so I am going to go for it!!! I promise I will keep you updated.
